French house icon Dombresky is back on Insomniac Records with a VIP version of his smash hit “In My Room” with UK-based singer SHELLS. The fresh variation sees the producer teaming up with fellow French producer Makinn for an intoxicating re-imagination. The track builds upon the original’s breakout success, which has amassed over 4.4 million streams to date.
Centered around SHELLS’ captivating vocal performance, the new rework builds upon the R&B core of the original while adding in a distinct French touch. Woozy pads, clean percussion, and pitched-down vocals create a soundbed that’s understated yet sultry. It’s warm and inviting with an underlying allure of elegance. Cascading strings, bubbly organ melodies, bright circular piano chords, and dreamy ’90s-esque guitar string plucks are interwoven with a delicate mastery. The rolling basslines drive the dance-friendly groove while the layers of instrumentation add a sense of ever-flowing intrigue. “In My Room (VIP)” blurs nostalgia with modern feels for a hazy romp that you’ll wish would never end.
Dombresky shines a light on how the VIP came to life, saying: “Makinn is a French artist that I’m friends with, and he sends me a lot of great music. The same month I was working on ‘In My Room,’ he sent me a cool, short demo using the same type of organ leads, and I thought, ‘Wow, wait a minute…’ and I changed the key of the ‘In My Room’ vocals and it sounded great! Then, after seeing the streaming numbers of the original song spike, I was like, ‘Yo! Let’s finish this remix!’ Andd we finally built the full track. We did this one purely for the vibe, and I’m so happy how it turned out.”
Cutting his teeth in his homeland for nearly 20 years, the French phenom Dombresky now resides in Los Angeles. Renowned for his powerful and fun-filled house cuts, he’s become a regular fixture on the Insomniac Records catalog after massive singles such as “Simple Hit,” “Futurmastic,” and the original “In My Room.” Dombresky is in the midst of his ‘Lift Off’ North American Tour, with stops at iconic venues such as Space Miami, Concord Music Hall (Chicago), Ogden Theatre (Denver), Knockdown Center (NYC), Midway (SF), and the Shrine Auditorium (LA). His work has recently drawn radio support from Kiss FM, Sirius XM, Tiesto, Don Diablo, Alison Wonderland, Wax Motif, Claptone, and Louis The Child.
Makinn is a new form of artistic expression from the Paris-based producer. The new project builds upon the refined talent from accomplished artist Martin Alix. Blending house with hints of indie-pop, the new sonic direction has already gained support from Kungs, Dombresky, and Boston Bun. With more collaborations on the horizon, and his live show in the works, expect 2024 to be a breakout year for the Parisian artist.
Dombresky and Makinn’s new VIP version of “In My Room” offers a fresh twist on the certified hit, resulting in a rework that is warm, inviting, and groove-filled.
