British producer TIJN has been on a real roll of late, with his funky, minimally inclined productions finding favour on the likes of Memoria, Body Parts and Leftback. His latest music finds a home on emerging Amsterdam-based imprint, Trim Records. A sonically stunning EP, ‘Don’t Stay Still’ is full of riches aplenty, it marks an auspicious start to life for the label, with TIJN’s contributions greatly enhanced by Funk E’s remix.
The action kicks off with the title track, ‘Keep Still’. A zippy number that’s tailor made for the floor, this one is a perfect tool with which to bring the night to more frantic planes. Catchy and almost effortlessly funky, it boasts all the hallmarks of a producer who’s reached a dazzling level of consistency when it comes to churning out said music.
Zoo Project resident Funk E keeps the track’s frame mainly intact, as he brings us towards a generally more trippy, downtrodden place on his canny reworking. TIJN then gets back to business on the percussive heavy sounds of ‘Short Star’, before the record culminates courtesy of ‘Slow Down’. Full of clever keys and gorgeous melodies, it’s also full of drama and displays another side to the producer’s production nous. A top drawer release from a label worth keeping an eye out for.
The EP’s cover art was entrusted to a young artist, Iabo, and is available to view at Amsterdam’s Art Gallery 3035.
