Joining the Apollo family is UK/AUS producer and DJ, Carlo Gambino, with his new single, “Don’t Talk About Nerds”. Carlo brings the funk and hits off with a strong lead track called “Don’t Play Games”. This cut features a nice deep groove that envelopes and delays with a strong driving beat and chopped up vox to perfectly layer the tune.
Next up is ‘Haus”, which is a pure rhythmic workout, featuring atmospheric effects, surrounded by a percussive drive. This track is a perfect blending tool, or great for layering.
Following that we have “Nina Loves Acid”, which is a nice bumpy groove with a twisty TB303 line that warps around the beat. Don’t let the subtle approach fool you here, this track rumbles on a system.
Closing out, we have the title track “Don’t Talk About Nerds”, which has a quirky and deep approach. Key stabs and sub bass make up the meat and potatoes here, while funky drums and vocal delays move around throughout.
All in all, a great release for Carlo and solid kick off for 2018 on Apollo. This release has a nice tech house feel and should appeal to any fans of Hector Moralez.
