Following last year’s incredible, sold out #standforsomething tour which featured Young Guns, Dry The River, Spector, Lower Than Atlantis and Sonic Boom Six performing in intimate venues up and down the UK, Dr. Martens are thrilled to announce its headline acts for 2014 and a host of new cities.
Last year’s tour was the stuff of rock n’ roll legend with the simple premise of taking some of the most exciting live acts around into tiny venues, giving music lovers the chance to catch their favourite acts up close and personal.
The 2014 tour will visit 5 new cities, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Liverpool, Birmingham and Newcastle as well as rolling into the capital once again.
The tour dates and venues are:
4th October – Edinburgh: Cabaret Voltaire – Funeral For A Friend
11th October – Cardiff: Clwb Ifor Bach – Eagulls
25th October – Liverpool: Shipping Forecast – We Are The Ocean
8th November – London: The Lexington – TBA
22nd November – Birmingham: The Flapper – Los Campesinos!
6th December – Newcastle: Cluny 2 – Tonight Alive
FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND
Since their inception in 2001, Welsh post-hard-core act Funeral For A Friend have consistently pushed the boundaries of their genre and carved a place for themselves as one of the UK’s most electrifying rock bands. From their breakthrough album ‘Casually Dressed and Deep In Conversation’ through to last year’s ‘Conduit’, they are always a compelling prospect both on record and in a live setting.
What do Funeral For A Friend stand for?
“The idea that music can break down walls that segregate us in everyday life and can make you feel a part of something larger than yourself, that’s something to stand for. A real sense of community and belonging.” – Matthew Davies-Kreye
EAGULLS
Leeds’ noisiest sons Eagulls have had a big year. From the release of their stunning self-titled debut album through to their breakthrough US performance on the prestigious Late Show with David Letterman, Eagulls are making their dense, shoegazing punk heard across the world.
What do Eagulls stand for?
“I stand for creative freedom. Creativity for me is like a drug; when I don’t get to be creative I snap.” – George Mitchell
WE ARE THE OCEAN
Four piece Essex rockers We Are The Ocean have grown a lot since their inception, from heavy post-hardcore through to their last album, the bold, rocking ‘Maybe Today, Maybe Tomorrow’ which saw them go from small rooms to headline tours, festival stages and radio airplay. Their forward thinking approach and rousing live sets make them a perfect fit for #standforsomething.
What do We Are The Ocean stand for?
“Burritos, cold beer and having freedom to create music.” – Liam Cromby
LOS CAMPESINOS!
From the spiky indie punk of their debut ‘Hold On Now Youngster’ through to the darker and more expansive sound of ‘No Blues’, Los Campesinos! continue to evolve. Driven by the biting wit and confessional lyrics of singer Gareth Campesinos! and wrapped in layers of multiple instruments, their sound is as raucous as it is pretty.
What do Los Campesinos! Stand for?
“LC! stand for emotive, visceral, drunken rock shows, created and shared in safe spaces with all misogyny and prejudices kept well away. No hierarchy and no assholes, just a load of pals.” – Gareth Campesinos!?
TONIGHT ALIVE
Australian pop-punk heroes Tonight Alive are renowned for their high octane live shows and sing along anthems as found on last year’s album ‘The Other Side’. From festival stages this summer to the small confines of their #standforsomething show this is a band whose shows are always brimming full of energy.
What do Tonight Alive stand for?
“We stand for empowerment. We believe that everyone is capable of achieving their own dreams, they just need to be able to believe that in themselves.” – Jenna McDougall
The headliners for the London show will be announced shortly as will supports for the entire tour.
The tour will also give a platform to a host of emerging bands from Dr. Martens’ association with its musical charity partner, Strummerville.
