Danus Kart - Dreamed Place EP
Italian producer Danus Kart takes the reins for the second Circlens release, and alongside his fine originals is a remix from fellow countryman Møhr.
Kart, who is inspired as much by Thom Yorke as Lusine, is a skilled DJ who has his own residency, which has taught him a lot about the dynamics of the dancefloor and has seen him warm up for a multitude of top artists. He believes in experimentation and makes his tracks with the aim of really moving his listeners. The title of this new EP comes from one of his dreams and was written between Sicily and Bologna using both analog and digital tools including numerous samples and the Arturia Minibrute,
Up first is the theatrical ‘Dreamed Place,’ an emotional house roller coaster that is studiously sombre. Churchy chords radiate from the supple drums and the whole thing is the sort of centrepiece track that will mark a standout point in any set. The darker ‘II Demonio’ is more paranoid and nervy, with glassy textures reflecting and refracting light up top as chunky drums drive below. It’s cinematic music with real tension contained within.
The third thrilling original is ‘Foliage;’ with thudding kicks and mournful chords making for a heavy hearted mood. Again it is a cavernous track with oodles of reverb and it really places you in the centre of the action. Atmospheric remixer Møhr, who works with labels like Curle as well as having released with My Flower on this label in 2016, steps up to tackle ‘Dreamed Place.’ His high octane, high drama mix will really get you on your toes as it surges forward through pained and dangling chords and thundering claps.
This is a fascinating EP that sounds like little else.
