With many citing Goldie and his trailblazing Metalheadz nights at Hoxton’s Blue Note as one of the most significant events in the evolution of drum & bass and jungle music, it’s no surprise that those monumental parties are to be honoured at the capital’s foremost bass music venue, XOYO London, this August. Building on his unforgettable 2021 XOYO residency, cultural icon Goldie is set for a night to remember in the depths of Cowper Street with Metalheadz: Blue Note Sessions on Saturday, 17th August. For tickets and more information, visit www.xoyo.co.uk.
One of the events making up XOYO’s eclectic ‘Summer Saturdays’ series, and spearheaded by legendary label founder Goldie, Metalheadz: Blue Note Sessions aims to deliver a clubbing experience to echo the vibe of the original seminal club night. Joining Goldie, fellow DnB royalty Grooverider will bring his unique sonic blueprint to Shoreditch’s most popular basement. Adding even more weight to the lineup, Diverge also features, accompanied by the vocal talents of Cleveland Watkiss and Medic MC, connecting the crowd with the DJs in a way that only seasoned drum & bass MCs can.
The Metalheadz nights at Blue Note are remembered as pivotal in the history of drum & bass, alongside Rage and Speed. Their significance can be attributed to a mix of factors: drum & bass was in its nascent stages; the Metalheadz label had attracted some of the best young producers; and the event’s timing on a Sunday drew out typically reserved beatmakers. Led by the dynamic Goldie, who was on the cusp of taking the genre worldwide, the night was marked by the absence of traditional MCs, intense dubplate rivalries, unforgettable DJ sets, and an unrivalled appreciation of the music. Now the originators come back together under the Metalheadz: Blue Note Sessions at XOYO London to reignite that passion.
After groundbreaking promoters LWE kicked off XOYO’s ‘Summer Saturdays’ series in August with Chicago house legend Jamie 3:26, followed by Ceri’s sublime deep house and garage, Metalheadz: Blue Note Sessions on 17th August is the perfect bridge into the second half of the series. Still to come is the immersive deep house and minimal techno sounds of Joshua James presents Pump on 24th and the hot blend of traditional house and cutting edge electronic production as Charlie Boon’s ‘Departures’ club brand debuts at XOYO in collaboration with COGO on 31st.
XOYO London is the home of quality electronic music and unforgettable nights this summer.
