Drum & bass pioneer Ray Keith reworks 30-year catalogue with live band at XOYO Birmingham

Prepare for an unforgettable night of Drum & Bass as genre godfather, Ray Keith, takes centre stage at XOYO Birmingham on Friday 29th November 2024 with ‘The Renegade’. This is not just an immersive show; it’s a celebration of over 30 years of groundbreaking rave anthems, reimagined by a full live band with special performances from Jungle icons, Ragga Twins and MC Juiceman. After their sold out shows at one of London’s most iconic venues Jazz Cafe, and Shangri-La Glastonbury’s venue Lost Horizon,  Ray Keith and his band ‘The Renegade’ now prepare for their XOYO Birmingham debut.

As they work their way through an extensive catalogue of old-school classics including the likes of ‘The Chopper’, ‘Terrorist’ and many more, the night promises an unmissable hybrid experience, combining live musicians, DJ and MCs, to mark a three-decade-long legacy.

Ray Keith said, “This live project captures the spirit of Jungle and D&B for me. You’ll hear the classics of the Ray Keith catalogue past and present but we’ll also be throwing in some nods to the foundations of dance music; Rare Groove, Acid House, Reggae, and Soul MUSIC”.

Known for his revolutionary remix of Orbital’s iconic record, ‘Chime,’ and his influential label, Dread Recordings, Ray Keith is arguably one of the most seminal foundations of Drum & Bass and Jungle. With roots in the UK rave scene of the early 1990s, Ray quickly established himself as a master of the decks, blending soulful rhythms with hard-hitting basslines. His breakthrough came with the iconic ‘Terrorist,’ which became a definitive Jungle cut. Over the years, Ray has continued to innovate, nurturing countless artists and tracks that push the boundaries of Drum & Bass. Known for his evocative and passionate sets, Ray Keith remains a beloved and inspirational figure, connecting deeply with fans and aspiring artists through his dynamic performances and rich musical legacy.

‘The Renegade’ featuring Ray Keith is just the tip of the November iceberg at XOYO Birmingham in a month that sees live performances from Newton Faulkner, Alfie Templeman, Noahfinnce, Kofi Stone and Bonny Light Horseman, while its club programme is flooded with top-tier talent, including Fish56Octagon, 4am Kru, Mozey, Cafe Mambo Ibiza, Cirque Du Soul and more.

Since its launch in September 2023, XOYO Birmingham has quickly become a standout destination for unforgettable clubbing experiences driven by the best in electronic dance music. Building on the prestigious legacy of its London counterpart, XOYO Birmingham has carved out its niche within the city’s lively nightlife. With five unique spaces and the ability to accommodate nearly 3,000 guests, XOYO Birmingham delivers an unmatched experience created by and for the people of Birmingham.
