Dutchkid Kick Off 2021 With ‘Lemonade’

Ahead of their debut album later this year, Dutchkid kick off 2021 with ‘Lemonade’, landing a BBC Introducing ‘Record Of The Week’ to add to their growing collection. Dutchkid turned plenty of heads last year with a string of singles showcasing their unique brand of stylish electronic pop. They crashed through 8 million streams with playlist support from the likes of New Music Friday (Spotify) and New Artist Spotlight (Apple Music) and ended the year highlighted in BBC Introducing’s ‘Best Of 2020’. Dutchkid are undoubtedly ones to watch, selling out all three, debut headline live shows, with the biggest yet now rescheduled for Friday 11th June 2021 at Oslo (Hackney, London). ‘Lemonade’ is another chance to enjoy their credible slant on synth-driven pop and, as always, it’s a tune full of hooks, skilfully delivered. Dutchkid are more than a band. With songwriters, producers, film-makers and graphic designers as part of the group, Dutchkid create, record and produce their own music and art. Each member brings a certain set of skills to the table to create something greater than the sum of its parts. The collective signed to US powerhouse Ultra Music after fierce label interest and have enjoyed a series of acclaimed singles including ‘Flight’, ‘Youth’, ‘Howling’ and ‘Friends’.

‘Lemonade’ is another treat from Dutchkid. It delves into the popular pastime of people watching, taking the point of view of an older man watching a group of young guns strutting past. He imagines what it must be like to be them and thinks he would love some of whatever they’re drinking!

Written in lockdown, entirely over the internet and video calls, ‘Lemonade’ was built from the ground up. Co-written with Joe Brown (producer for Låpsley, Richard Russell) it takes a conga-infused loop of beats as its foundation, layered with a warm synth bassline and a typically catchy vocal delivered with its own rhythm. The chorus adds more vocal layers and a hooky riff before dropping back into the irresistible groove.

Dutchkid are doing things differently and the signs are all there – it’s only a matter of time before this hugely talented collective break through in a big way.
