Eclectic electronic musician Jerry Folk released his double single ‘sadsongwtf/ All The Things’ on the 2nd of September via Folkestad Recordings. The Norwegian artist previously released debut album Dotted Red with his side project FENGSEL which received significant attention and was nominated for a Norwegian Grammy. Jerry Folk has remixed the likes of Billie Eilish, Charlie Puth and Oh Wonder and produced for artists like Alina Baraz, Axwell Ingrosso and Lemaitre to name but a few. Having toured the US multiple times, Jerry Folk has opened for Odesza, played at Coachella and the Mixmag lab twice and earned over 350 million plays across streaming platforms.
Oslo born and based, Jerry Folk has always been a traveler at heart. Each of his songs are unique in their own right as the producer refuses to stick to one particular genre. As he creates his exceptionally diverse music, Jerry Folk finds inspiration in artists such as James Blake, Sevdaliza, Sbtrkt, Kaytranada and Flume. With this upcoming LP, he sets his sights on the emotionally darker fusions found in the genre of trap music. His latest release calls to mind the works of Lauryn Hill, Sevdaliza, SBTRKT and SZA.
‘sadsongwtf/ All the things’ is as delicately melancholic and pensive in mood as the track title suggests, at least in the initial seconds. The warm synth embellishments and soothing harp notes heard close to the end of both songs add a subtle hope and light to this emotionally fuelled landscape – almost to insinuate that the storm has passed and one can carry on now.
Jerry Folk shares further insight on this double release:“ ‘Sadsongwtf / All the things’ is a double single and the second release towards my upcoming project Castle Tapes. It further plays with the palette I’ve been inspired to use the last years and is a result of me wanting to create things with high energy coming out of covid. Probably because of the lack of input I got from going out and things like that”.
