Eclectic Rock ‘n Rollers ROWSIE come of age with ‘Searching’ EP Out Now
‘Searching’ is the new four-track EP from eclectic Rock ‘n Roll band ROWSIE. Here, the band’s range is clear for all to see – from power rock to political noise fest and not so gentle love songs. Following the success of a couple of two-track releases earlier this year, ‘Searching’ is ROWSIE’s boldest statement yet, cementing them firmly as ones to watch in London’s indie rock scene.
Plying their trade in London and the South-East of England, the four-piece have been building an audience of devout followers who love the infectious energy of their live shows. They just returned from a two-week tour in Mexico where they played a series of shows with Freddie Cowan (Vaccines), performing his new solo project. Rock it is still the music of the people in Mexico, firmly associated with a long heritage of protest and resistance. The response from the Mexican audiences was fantastic, and ROWSIE have been invited back to play gigs in the October festival season.
Opening track ‘Searching for a Home’ is the story of leaving it all behind and starting again in a new town. The raw, crunching power that is the signature muscle of ROWSIE’s rock licks is skillfully blended with luscious harmonies. Imagery-rich storytelling and pure, untethered energy drive it all home.
Second track ‘Love So Clear’ twists around Richard’s weaving lyrics and Holly’s intricate guitar lines. Through these devices is told the story of a conversation between lovers who get tangled in the emotional sheets of a very long and late night. A mature love song that assures us we can fight, make up and reach a higher plain of mutual understanding
For the politically minded, ‘Gaslight’ is a full volume response to the happenings of January 6th 2021 in the USA. It’s a call out against pure, evil madness being flung into the world by delusional megalomaniacs who’s lies and obfuscations mislead us all. The song is a battle cry of the rational mind and is reflected in the onslaught of sound ROWSIE lay down.
Final track ‘Legs of Sand’ takes you out of the storm and into the lounge of Piscataway, NJ’ Holiday Inn. Lead singer Richard Rothernberg invites us to “sit back, relax, take a load off.” This laid-back country-inflected ballad is the perfect sign off, especially in the moments when Holly Henderson’s sonic crescendo balances against Richard’s vocal pleas.
Rumours abound of a full ROWSIE LP later this year, but for now, wrap your ears firmly around the sumptuous sounds of the ‘Searching’ EP and catch them live if you can!
