Alexis Raphael makes his debut on Green Velvet’s label Relief with huge club weapon ‘Electrik Funk EP’. Wasting no time setting the pace on this release Alexis Raphael quickly sets the tone with lead track ‘Throw Me Some Funk’. A fusion of expertly tuned drum beats with uplifting and melodic interludes peppered throughout. Next up is ‘Eat Vegans’. The gradual introduction cleverly acquaints the listeners to a rich soundscape before dropping into the main event; a myriad of well thought out tonal elements, providing a deeper feel than its predecessor.
Next up on the release is a collaborative effort, bringing together Alexis Raphael and Relief label head, Green Velvet. It’s always exciting when two gifted producers get into the studio together, and the product of this partnership,‘Ikandi’, is no exception. A blend of heavy electronic expressions and interesting vocal phrasing are prevalent throughout, eventually coming together in an intense climax that will send shockwaves across dancefloors throughout summer 2018 and beyond. Rounding off the release, Alexis Raphael finishes with ‘Bass Too Dark’, an aptly titled track as it definitely has a much heavier feel to it than the others on this EP.
