Electronic Producer Oliver Schories remixes Karmacoda’s ‘Deja Vu’

German DJ, label owner, and artist manager Oliver Schories shared a remix of soulful San Franciscan trio Karmacoda’s track ‘Deja Vu’ on the 28th of February via Sola Musa Music. The breathtaking remix premiered on leading dance music tastemaker YourEDM, as well as German melodic house publication trndmsk. Over a decade ago, The Hamburg native burst onto the scene as a precocious artist with a dream and a debut album, Herzensangelegenheit (2012), on Parquet Recordings. Fast-forward to today, with over 140 million Spotify streams, support from renowned publications such as Mixmag, Magnetic Magazine, Decoded Magazine, Deep House Amsterdam, Progressive Astronaut, When We Dip, HMWL and FAZE Mag, his influence on the global electronic music landscape is undeniable. With albums like Exit (2013) and Blitzbahn (2018) released on renowned labels such as Stil vor Talent and Get Physical, Schories has cemented his place among Germany’s top DJ/live acts. A relentless performer, 2019 marked his peak with worldwide tours and standout EPs like Maia, amassing over 4.5 million streams. Beyond his music, he’s championed other artists through his labels, SOSO and Pracht, hosting talents like Deetron and Rodriguez Jr. His latest albums, Paradigm (2020) and Paradigm Remixes (2021), and collaborations like Packard with Jan Blomqvist garnered millions of streams.

The original track was lifted off KARMACODA’s 2022 Lessons In Time LP. Featuring Jessica Ford (vocals), Brett Crockett (vocals/producer), and Eric Matsuno (bass/multi-instrumentalist), KARMACODA is a genre-defying trio with a two-decade career spanning electronica, trip-hop, R&B, ballads, and dream pop. Known for blending soulful R&B with jazz lounge influences, their sound draws comparisons to Adele, Lana Del Rey, and Massive Attack. They’ve gained recognition from publications like CLASH Magazine, Wonderland Mag, and Earmilk, with airplay on NPR Music and RTÉ 2XM. Their award-winning music, including videos for ‘Lo-Fi Girl’ and ‘Make Me The One’, has also been featured in film and TV scores.

‘Deja Vu’ is a glimmering amalgam of downtempo, trip hop with a hint of R&B, reminiscent of Portishead and Massive Attack. A soaring feature is Jessica’s passionate vocals, weaving in and out of autotune, enhancing the song’s hazy, disoriented feeling. Oliver Schories’ rendition launches the track into the stratosphere of melodic house, masterfully splicing the vocals and sonic elements over a pulsing four-on-the-floor and imbuing it with shimmering synths. Oliver’s take on the track elegantly readies it for a hypnotic dancefloor experience while retaining KARMACODA’s mysterious and alluring spirit.
