EMC ANNOUNCES INTERNATIONAL SPEAKER LINE-UP

The Electronic Music Conference has announced an influential line-up of music industry leaders from eight key regions in Asia set to speak at the December conference as part of this years ‘Asia in Focus’ theme.

Speakers include Flic Russell, the Music Director from Bali’s Potato Head, Nao Kiyota of Ministry of Sound Japan, Ed Peto, Managing Director of Outdustry in China, Nikhil Chinapa of Submerge and Live Viacom 18 in India and Miro Grgic of Malasimbo Festival in the Phillipines along with other key industry figures from the region.

Neil Ackland, EMC Founder said “EDM is exploding across the Asia Pacific region. Our goal with EMC is to make Sydney and EMC the hub for the region’s industry leaders and artists.  We will be bringing industry leaders from across Asia Pacific to Sydney to encourage collaboration and ignite business opportunities for artists and the industry”.

The speakers will participate in a series of panels and forum discussions centred around the rise of Asia as a leading market in the dance music industry and Australia’s role in the expanding scene. Topics of discussion will include the future of electronic music in Asia and what could be the biggest boom in genre to date, the opportunities and challenges for artists and brands in Asia and first hand advice from Australian’s who have tried or are trying to expand into the Asian market.

Priya Dewan, Director of Singapore based booking agency and consulting service Feedback Asia said “Asia should be a focus for the Australian and global dance music industry because the fans are here, the media is ready, the clubs are open, the festival space is growing and the infrastructure is now in place and continuing to develop at a rapid pace.”

Flic Russell, Music Director for Bali’s popular Potato Head Beach Club said “I’m really looking forward to connecting with all the EMC 2013 delegates in Sydney, getting to know more about the Australian industry and its key players, and generally getting a music and information overload specific to our region of the world!”

According to a recent White Paper titled ‘Electronic Dance Music (EDM): The Digital Pangaea’, written by Wall Street veteran John Langdon, the global EDM market is currently worth $15 – $20billion with a digital music revenue growth of 9.8% in 2012. The paper cited profound growth in the dance music industries of South American, Asia and Africa in what’s being dubbed the “EDM global gold rush”.

The rush was recently felt here in Australia with the acquisition of Australian festival promoter Totem OneLove by major player SFX who purchased the company behind the successful Stereosonic festival for $75million last month.  Description: https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/images/cleardot.gif

EMC this year secured an investment from Destination NSW to ensure EMC achieves its stated goal of being a hub for Asia-Pacific business leaders and artists.

Minister for Tourism, Major Events and the Arts, George Souris, said “Sydney is the home of Australia’s creative industries and the gateway to the Asia-Pacific for the country’s music industry. EMC presents a unique opportunity for the world’s best creative practitioners in the field of electronic dance music to come together in Sydney’s creative hub Carriageworks to network and forge relationships that will hopefully provide future business opportunities between Australian, Asian and international music artists.”

The representatives from India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Philippines, China and Japan will attend this year’s conference, to be held at Carriageworks in Sydney on December 3 and 4.
