Final additions to the awards list and performers are announced ahead of the event on Saturday 2nd December, which is music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins Scotland’s biggest fundraiser of the year.
Nordoff Robbins Scotland and sponsors SSE today announce the final additions to the biggest night of the Scottish music industry, the SSE Scottish Music Awards, which take place at the Old Fruitmarket on Saturday 2nd December.

The latest award nominations include; Summer Nights,  for Glasgow UNESCO City of Music Best Live Event, Texas for the Ticketmaster Tourmaster Award, Glasgow Jazz Festival for the Sunday Mail Music Business Award, Horse McDonald for the Music Ambassador Award sponsored by Sir Reo Stakis Foundation and The Waterboys for SSE’s Outstanding Contribution to Music. Scottish icons Hipsway and The Waterboys will also perform at the ceremony, as well as Emeli Sandé, Nina Nesbitt, The Temperance Movement, Tom Walkerand Lewis Capaldi.

The glittering ceremony has been Nordoff Robbins Scotland’s biggest fundraiser since 1996 and funds raised on the night are a vital part of the charity’s ability to provide music therapy to over 450 vulnerable children and adults across the country every week.

Scots music legends Hipsway will take to the Old Fruitmarket stage on Saturday to celebrate their appearance at Summer Nights, nominated for Glasgow UNESCO City of Music Best Live Event.  Hipsway’s astonishing career began in 1984 in Glasgow and continues today with upcoming shows around the country, and the recording of new music. With a music career spanning over 30 years, Hipsway will entertain fans and music buffs at the awards ceremony and after reforming in November 2016, their re-emergence at the SSE Scottish Music Awards will be a true highlight of the night.

Glasgow Jazz Festival are nominated for the Sunday Mail Music Business Award, acknowledging a phenomenal 30 years in the industry for the festival which sees home-grown jazz artists side-by-side with jazz legends such as Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Buddy Guy, Sarah Vaughan and Tony Bennett.

Other Glasgow-born nominees are Texas, nominated for the Ticketmaster Tourmaster Award. Founded by Sharleen Spiteri and Johnny McElhone in 1986, the band released their ninth album in May 2017 accompanied by a world tour including sold-out shows in the Royal Albert Hall, The Olympia in Dublin, Le Colisée de Roubaix, Paris (where Sharleen celebrated her 50th birthday) and upcoming gigs at Dubai’s Tennis Stadium, Cape Town’s Botanical Gardens plus five Australian dates before the year’s out.

One of the country’s greatest vocalists, Horse McDonald is nominated for the Music Ambassador Award, sponsored by the Sir Reo Stakis Foundation. Horse has toured with international artists including Tina Turner and BB King, and her passion for all things musical has been ever present in her shining career. Diversifying into the world of Theatre in 2016, Horse, along with friend and co-writer Sarah Ferguson, wrote her first ever show ‘Careful’ which appeared as part of 2016’s Gilden Balloon’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe Programme under the direction of Maggie Kinloch. The one-woman show received rave reviews, being described as a “undeniably intriguing and raw…biopic of her own life” and a “unique performance with unbridled sincerity”.

The SSE Scottish Music Awards celebrates the best of Scottish and UK music whilst simultaneously providing crucial fundraising for vulnerable children and adults across Scotland, for music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins Scotland and looks set to be another unmissable night. 2017 looks to be even bigger and better than before with appearances from Emeli Sandé, Nina Nesbitt, The Waterboys, Hipsway, Lewis Capaldi, The Temperance Movement and Tom Walker all set to perform.
