Nottingham producer Nail delivers two more cavernous cuts under his Smoke pseudonym in ‘EP 2’ on his 89:GHOST imprint this September.
Neil ‘Nail’ Tolliday’s releases in the 90s on Warp, DiY and Classic earned him a cult following before the early 2000s saw him focusing on projects like Bent and Goldrun with Simon Mills. He returned to focus on his solo projects in 2013 with releases coming out on Shabby Doll, Robsoul, Hold Youth as well as his own labels. Released on his 89:GHOST imprint, this is his second EP as Smoke and continues the introspective theme found in ‘EP 1’.
In part two of the newly launched Smoke series Tolliday takes us to subterranean planes. ‘Nuutri’ is a 14-minute evolving techno trip that ensnares the listener in its meditative groove. Utilising a low muted bass line ‘Familia’ takes things in a deep and insular direction with drawn out dynamic changes so subtle that they are felt as much as heard.
Smoke ‘EP 2’ is out on 89:GHOST on 7th September 2015.
