Five Reasons To Plan A Weekend In Brighton This Summer
As well as obvious perks like the beach, a rich history of arts and culture and its liberal vibe, here are FIVE more reasons why you should be planning a weekend in Brighton this summer.
1. London Fatigue
You’ve raved and gigged quite frankly everywhere that will have you in London, including a Kwik Fit garage, and it doesn’t make it any easier to bear getting the night bus two hours home. Frankly you’re uninspired. Time to jump on that train and head to the friendly shores of Brighton when in just 1 hour you can replace those skanky pigeons with Seagulls, and I don’t mean the urban seagulls that loiter round fish markets, I mean genuine seaside seagulls that eat fish and chips.
2. Programme Highlights
Patterns has put Brighton firmly back on the map in terms of quality club programming with Joy Orbison, George Fitzgerald, Horse Meat Disco, Shanti Celeste, Andrew Weatherall, Jackmaster, Norman Jay, Denis Sulta and Marshall Jefferson all coming up in the next couple of months. However what you may not know is that they also book plenty of bands (forthcoming live gigs that could work for a weekend visit include Lone, Jagwar Ma, LIIMA, Cate Le Bon and King Khan & The Shrines)
Full programme here.
Plus – double bonus, hang around the next day and make the most of Patterns new weekly Sunday Social programme of events – a combination of daytime DJs and quirky cultural events hosting the spacious ground floor bar, including Musical Bingo, Monthly Milk and Home Service. Use these FREE Sunday Sessions to wind down your weekend with bottomless Bloody Mary’s and Prosecco deals for just £15 – which includes a delicious loaded gourmet hotdog courtesy of The Dog Haus.
3. The Opening of Patterns’ Seafront Terrace
If you prefer to dance in the daylight and with sea views, Patterns will be throwing open the doors of their lovely summer terrace for the first time this year on Saturday 7th May around their birthday party with Jackmaster and Kornel Kovacs. Yes Patterns and their gourmet hotdog restaurant The Dog Haus are all you need to party in style with a view of Brighton’s seaside. Join them for some quality bangers (in both meat and music form) and make their ground floor bar and aforementioned terrace your new front room.
4. The Great Escape Festival (Thursday 19th, Friday 20th and Saturday 21st May)
The Great Escape, the festival for new music, is returning 19 – 21 May 2016 to transform Brighton into a mecca for emerging talent with an unparalleled showcase of international and local acts. For over a decade, The Great Escape has produced diverse line-ups flecked with the stars and sounds of the future, establishing this 3-day festival as the ultimate destination of discovery for music-lovers.
Patterns has again partnered again with the festival so keep an eye on the website for venue specific line ups. TGE sells out every single year out so make sure you get your ticket now:
5. Boundary Festival (Saturday 17th September)
Patterns have just announced they are partnering with Boundary Festival, a brand new festival representing Brighton’s vibrant nightlife. Boundary have joined forces with the city’s leading music institutions who are each to host a stage. Renowned for its intimate dance floor and impeccable sound system, the Patterns stage will provide an underground edge with deeper, leftfield sounds. The line up isn’t announced yet but with Patterns already on board you are strongly tipped to register for pre sales tickets

About Patterns
‘Patterns is an important turn of fortune for the Brighton music scene’ – Spindle Magazine
‘Patterns, one of Brighton’s newest nightclubs, have provided consistently intriguing line-ups since they first opened their door. The club’s curation has seen big names in house, techno and everything in-between pass through the doors in the last few months.’ – Crack Magazine
Patterns is located directly opposite the iconic pier on Brighton beach, in strolling distance from the
station. The venue was launched in 2015 by Mothership Group (behind The Book Club, Queen of Hoxton, Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen in London). Spread over two floors with a wood-decked south-facing outdoor terrace, Patterns is the perfect day-to- night hangout with a diverse programme of arts, music and cultural events to reflect the eccentric culture of Brighton itself. Patterns provides a unique space for creative crowds to relax, eat, drink, dance, create, watch and experience and is a multi-use space unlike any other in the city.
