Southern Fried Records continues to introduce us to exciting new talents in the wake of excellent EPs from MOTSA, Jona Sul and The Emperor Machine, with a release from mysterious pairing Fluida.
This is a debut EP, but it’s already fair to say that Fluida’s combination of natural and electronic sounds is both distinctive and compelling. An uncharted voyage into the more ritualistic, tribal side of house.
Created with an extensive arsenal of vintage equipment, the Red Spiral EP offers a first window into this pair’s musical world and marks the arrival proper of a collaboration several years in the making.
‘Triangle’ is a moody brew of slurred, echoing vocals that drift about with slick percussive lines and louche, nearly spiritual drums, the strum of a Balearic guitar adds yet more reverential vibes making it a fine opener. ‘Woven In’ is a little more direct and driven but is just as idiosyncratic in the way it marries organic sounds with synthetic textures. Elastic synths dance about above live drums and serene pads add an emotional weight to proceedings. Lastly, ‘Deep Down’ again features heavily filtered vocals and breezy, beachy beats with watery synths and celestial chords all adding to the track’s majesty.
Southern Fried have unearthed a promising new act in Fluida, who establish the first steps of their vibrant journey with a lush and melodic rainforest of sound.
