FRASER and SEXPAYS deliver vintage French Touch on new EP ‘Midnight Beasts’

Dripping in French Touch influences comes ‘Midnight Beasts EP’ on Cool.Cool.Cool.Records from FRASER & SEXPAYS, the new project from veteran Canadian artist FRASER (aka Dustin Miles, BORDERZ and The Starfighter).

Over the past decade, FRASER and his alter egos have built up a sizeable following of fans and peers. His latest offering sees him pair up with TikTok disruptor and edgy disco-house producer SEXPAYS. After connecting on Instagram, the duo discovered they had immediate chemistry in the studio, writing five tracks together instead of the planned one.

Talking about the idea behind “Midnight Beasts”, FRASER explains, “the inspiration and direction for this EP to me would be to pay homage to classic, raw sounding French House/French Touch from the late 90s & early 00’s. I want to bring this sound back; I feel it’s a timeless genre.”

The pair effortlessly harness the original sentiments of French Touch on ‘Midnight Beasts’, each track on the EP embodying an easy, loose, light touch that is indicative of the genre. Energised, funk-fuelled basslines that wouldn’t seem out of place on a Daft Punk or Bob Sinclar cut, jive up to throbbing piano lines and disco sensibilities with masterful precision. Indeed, final track ‘Out Of Touch’ beautifully samples the Hall & Oates original that has proved itself one of the longest-standing vocal selections of disco-house. If this is the start of things to come, fans of the sound have much to look forward from FRASER and SEXPAYS.
