French visionary Francois X unveils part one of his latest techno EP ‘The Skin Between Us’

French techno legend Francois X delivers the first edition of his two-part EP ‘The Skin Between Us’ out on 20th June via his revered XX LAB imprint.

More than just a release, ‘The Skin Between Us’ is a personal and poetic statement – a sonic meditation on identity, embodiment and legacy within the European techno scene. It emerges from years of immersion in the raw energy of Black American electronic music, house and techno alike and the deep reverbations of those sounds through European club spaces.

Part one of the EP kicks off with Bone and Signal, a dark and moody techno cut pulsating with brooding intensity, creating a vigorous energy for the dancefloor. Followed by the hypnotic ‘No More Shell’, its relentless kick drums echo amongst the metallic reverbations to its four-on-the-floor beat. Closing out with ‘Silent Tension’, a descent into an undercurrent of emotion, allowing the listener to collapse into the vulnerability of the music.

Francois X channels a visceral, textured vision of techno; sensual, groovy, percussive. It’s a sound grounded as much in the roots of Detroit and Chicago as in his own métis heritage. The dancefloor becomes a site not just for rhythm, but for emotional resonance and physical truth.

My identity, like my sound, is hybrid”. Francois explains. “This project, is an introspective collage of who I am, an echo of the lineage I come from, shaped by solitude, tension, and the poetry of the night.

Emerging from the underground pulse of Paris, François X honed his craft as a resident at Concrete, shaping a distinct sonic identity that bridges groove-driven techno with avant-garde soundscapes. His reputation quickly grew beyond France, securing performances at Berghain, fabric, Awakenings, Melt Festival, and other key institutions. As a producer, François X has released on influential labels such as MDR, BPitch Control, Exhale, and fabric, continually pushing the boundaries of techno. His debut album, Irregular Passion (2018), showcased his ability to craft immersive, emotionally rich narratives, further solidifying his status as a

forward-thinking artist.

‘The Skin Between Us’ is arguably one of Francois’ most eclectic music yet, as he continues to strive to portray his undeniable talent – a testament to his booming presence in the techno scene. It is a convergence of his path, musical apprenticeship, embodied club culture, and the lived experience of navigating a mixed identity. It speaks through presence, through form and through sound. It reclaims space without confrontation, opening up the possibility of nuance, complexity and multiplicity.
