Fritz Kalkbrenner – Void (Andre Hommen Remix)

German native Fritz Kalkbrenner’s new single Void, released on 20th January via SUOL/BMG get’s Andre Hommen rework.

Taken from his imminently released third studio album Ways Over Water, Kalkbrenner’s most recent offering, Void, exemplifies a more refined method in production where classic song structure takes precedence over more common electronic elements, transcending classic dance genres like Techno or House.

This remix comes from fellow German Dj/Producer and house music obsessive Andre Hommen, hailing from Dennis Ferrers Objektivity camp and who’s EP has already gained support from house heavyweights including Ame, Dixon, Hot Since 82 and Tensake to name a few. Creating a great minimal driven atmosphere with his remix leading the vocal to a great big room moment with additional chords and synth patterns.

The first single to be taken from ‘Ways Over Water’ titled, Back Home has currently sold more then 120,000 copies in Europe, with the video amassing over three and a half million views on YouTube since its premiere – an impressive fete to say the least.

Written and recorded in the producers own Suol-Studios, situated within the Kreuzberg district of Berlin, it is easy to notice that the area provided the ideal atmosphere when writing ‘Void’ due to its reputation as an incubator for subcultures, ranging from the early inklings of punk rock to the more contemporary clubbing scene that the city is currently known for.

With ‘Void’, Kalkbrenner, allows his smooth Rhodes piano hooks to carry the majority of the track, leaving space for his distinctive vocal to add a colourful and ear catching dose of melody to the three minutes of alternative electronic pop.

There is still however capacity for Fritz’s signature production staples, such as his distorted drums, guitar riffs and catchy baselines, all contributing to his hallmark sound that have earned the producer his plaudits over the years and it certainly looks like it’s going to be an eventful 2015 for one of Germany’s most acclaimed exports.
