From Radiohead Engineer to Club Pioneer: Hugo Nicolson’s “Black Stick” Lands on Higher Love

Hugo Nicolson announces a new EP ‘Black Stick’ released on 3rd June through Higher Love Recordings.

Acclaimed grammy winning producer and engineer Hugo Nicolson returns with Black Stick, his latest EP on Higher Love Recordings, set for release on 3 June. Building on the momentum of his celebrated Revolvalution and Field of Dreams projects, Black Stick showcases Nicolson’s masterful fusion of experimental textures, hypnotic rhythms, and dancefloor drive.

The Black Stick EP features three standout tracks:

• Little Kind – A lush, immersive journey layered with acid synths, deep basslines, and emotive melodies. Nicolson expertly balances warmth and introspection, making it a perfect soundtrack for dark late-night dance floors.

• Spanner – A tougher, percussive workout that channels raw warehouse energy. Heavy low-end grooves meet distorted, mechanical flourishes in a track designed to ignite dancefloors.

• Zombie – A dark, slow-burning piece that evolves through dubby atmospherics, gritty textures, and ghostly echoes. True to its title, Zombie marches forward with a brooding, relentless momentum.

• Little Kind (Radio Edit) – big up the Spotify jibbin’ crew

Black Stick sees Nicolson once again pushing sonic boundaries, drawing from his rich background in electronic music, alternative soundscapes, and cinematic production. Each track reflects his singular ability to weave depth, emotion, and experimentation into club-ready forms.

Supported by Higher Love Recordings’ growing reputation for curating forward-thinking electronic music, Black Stick promises to resonate with DJs, fans, and clubbers seeking adventurous peak dancefloor sounds with timeless appeal.
