DRAMA - Gallows (Remixes)

A dark and passionate musical collaboration between Na’el Shehade and Via Rosa, DRAMA have become the subject of widespread critical acclaim following the release of their ‘Gallows’ EP in November 2016.
 
A Chicago-based duo established as artists in their own right, with Na’el having previously worked with Kanye West, Chance the Rapper, Machine Gun Kelly, and more, DRAMA's moody sound has been described as soulful electronic combining influences of house, indie, neo-soul, pop and R&B, with ‘Gallows’ now receiving a diverse remix package as various artists work their own spin on various originals.

Kicking off the remix package is a soothing, melancholic mix from No Regular Play, who lace ‘Barely Friends’ with down-tempo synth chords. A stark contrast to the more deep-house focused offering from BAILE’s bass-led mix of ‘Hopes Up’. LA-based Kauf takes a turn on ‘Hopes Up’ as well, serving up an ethereal stripped-down version of the original, clad with jaunty electronica stabs.  Savile’s ‘Walk Out When You Want To Mix’ of ‘Low Tide’ contains more short sharp stabby chords, to deliver a brooding feel, while the remix packages’ final track ‘Forever Gone’ receives two very different interpretations courtesy of Alinka and Michna. The former opting for pumpy house grooves, whilst the latter focuses on a more 80s electronica vibe thanks to rich synthy chords.

Named after “Gallows Humor,” the album is painted with DRAMA comical reflection on painful experience. Here’s what Via Rosa has to say about the new release:

“We felt like the term Gallows Humor really encompassed our sound since our music has been described as happy sad music; music that brings you up when you’re feeling down. Heartbreak can be painful and our hope through our album Gallows is that it will help you see the humor when you’re going through the volatility of love. Na’el and I came together to create Gallows as our last letters to the loves we thought we couldn’t live without.

“I spoke my words through the lyrics and Na’el expressed his feelings through the beats. Gallows is a DRAMAtic soundtrack for anyone and everyone who has ever felt like the only way to get through pain is to see crack a joke, see the humor and keep it moving.”

The Gallows Remix EP is set to drop on January 22nd.
