Glasgow Underground Releases ‘Knee Deep’ By Dillon Nathaniel
The team behind the renowned Glasgow Underground ensures Christmas comes early for tech house fans with ‘Knee Deep,’ a huge new tune from breakout DJ and producer, Dillon Nathaniel.
The thick grooves and hypnotic rhythms of this much talked about new artist have won him high praise and support from Billboard, Solardo, Marc Kinchen, Chris Lake and Lee Foss, as well as plays across BBC Radio 1 and KISS FM.
It’s another fine signing by label boss, Kevin McKay and A&R, Sam Dexter, who’ve been hooked by Nathaniel’s style, along with the rest of them. And Nathaniel himself is feeling festive by giving away an exclusive, one-off jacket featuring the ‘Knee Deep’ artwork. Head to his Instagram for more info.
Glasgow Underground first connected with Dillon Nathaniel after a demo from the Insomniac DJ and LA-producer landed in the GU inbox. Nathaniel had been busy working away, rearing his head on ‘Diplo and Friends’ on Radio One and 1Xtra, and releasing on well-regarded labels such as Sola, Repopulate Mars, Toolroom, Big Beat, Insomniac and many others, always showing an ability to work multiple sub genres, flawlessly.
Although it seems like his rise to the top has been swift, Nathaniel’s roots run deep. The former audio engineer and hardware lover found his footing in music at an early age as a vocalist and guitar player before going on epic road trips with his dad to see the likes of Carl Cox and Sasha. After those inspirational trips he has gone on to play key festival performances at CRSSD in San Diego, AMF’s Friendship Maiden Voyage, Coachella’s Heineken House, and EDC Las Vegas.
Dillon Nathaniel’s new single is sure to keep up that fine record. The excellent ‘Knee Deep’ is a DJ friendly tech banger with plenty of character. The bulky, chunky drums demand you dance immediately, and some trippy synth effects will get hands in the air. The whole thing bristles with energy and smart club dynamics, with colourful pads rising up through the mix next to an iconic sample, and woodpecker hits all acting like catchy hooks. It’s explosive, high impact and filled with a future sense of funk.
Dillon says, “Funk and disco have always been at the core of my musical taste and inspiration behind writing music. Knee Deep is a tribute to the group Funkadelic and is my modern take on their hit song released in 1979. I wanted to use a similar synth and remake the iconic melody but flip it into a minimal tech dancefloor beater. The tune reflects a new era of sound for me; I want to keep it simple but maintain the levels of high energy.”
2020 has been another big year for the enduringly essential Glasgow Underground label, currently sitting in the prestigious ‘Label Of The Month’ slot on Beatport. It’s seen big releases from the boss himself who has also been hard at work platforming the next generations with standout tunes from Earth n Days and the latest, Harvee; to scene legends such as Dennis de Laat and Morenzo Pezzolato, plus more besides. All of this has ensured the label remains a constant presence in Beatport and Traxsource charts as well as featuring regularly on the BBC Radio 1 shows of Annie Mac, Pete Tong and Danny Howard and picking up over a million streams.
Dillon Nathaniel is yet another vital new artist with a fresh take on house music and who is set to blow up in 2021, whilst Glasgow Underground keeps doing what it does best in bringing quality music to the forefront of the scene.
