Even by his high standards, Kevin McKay has had a landmark couple of years. His label is closing in on an incredible 700th release, and the man himself continued to turn out a high-grade, non-stop selection of vital sounds that covered a wide spectrum of house styles. Back in 2020, he dropped his well-received ‘Summer Of Love’ LP which perfectly captured the club experience in one indispensable album. There was also a huge collaboration with French house producer Norman Doray on “Let Me Work On You” while the Glasgow Underground label continued to make exciting new talent signings with the likes of prodigious producer Harvee quickly making his mark.

All this of course comes after Kevin has spent many years deeply entrenched in the scene. In that time he has earned a deserving reputation as one of house music’s most hard-working figures and has done everything from working in high profile collaborative duos with Omid 16B, creating numerous dance floor anthems, discovering and co-producing Mylo’s seminal album, ‘Destroy Rock & Roll’ album and holding down a residency at Mick’s Garage in London.

Since 2020, Kevin has found that “nothing gets the whistles going quite like a classic hook or sample. Sure, new records work, but nothing beats the combination of nostalgia and a banging new beat for arm-raising euphoria.” He continues, “A recent DJ survey confirmed that, for many, ABBA’s “Gimme Gimme” is the biggest tune they could play in 2021. Some of them talked about it being my house version of the song, and many others like Diplo, Arielle Free, Eats Everything & Max Styler dropped it to crazy responses. I made that version in 2019, just as we were entering lockdown, but this year’s album, a collection of my favourite singles from the last 15 months or so, features more of the same.”

The new album features plenty of new vocal tunes such as “Take It Back”, “Open Your Heart” and “Voices”, but the majority of the tracks are classic songs and samples re-imagined with a 2022 groove. One of them is “My Goodies,” his new and exclusive remix of Ciara’s “Goodies,” which started as an edit he made to play out.

He explains, “I love the simplicity of Lil Jon’s production (musically, it’s almost all on one note!), and Ciara’s rhythmic delivery makes for a great dance floor mover. I’ve taken the signature chorus, wrapped it up in a heavy tech beat and developed the Ocarina synth in the original into a big drop synth. It got a wicked reaction when I played it at the GU party at NT’s Loft in January.”

The remix is yet another gold standard tune with plenty of infectious hooks and drums that won’t quit, surely destined to become Kevin’s latest chart-topper. The rest of the new album takes in an endless stream of feel-good house tracks such as the funky “Comin’ Home Baby,” the supremely soulful house sounds of “Miss You,” chunky deep tech of “Deeper Underground,” swaggering, party pumping “Move Ya Body,” timeless synth lines and classic vocals of “Sing It Back,” dirty bass of “Fever Called Love” and explosive, floor-filling jam that is “Jump Around” as well as many other highlights.

This is a bumper collection of surefire dance floor bombs from Kevin McKay, who once again proves why he is the most reliable and inventive producer in the game.
