Following their impressive Truesoul debut back in August 2023 with ‘Set & Setting’, Goom Gum now return to Drumcode’s Melodic Techno sibling imprint to drop their compulsive new two-track EP ‘Everybody Do Clap’. Out now, the duo’s skillful deployment of deft chord progressions, heavy basslines and infectious trance elements have already attracted sustained support from label boss Adam Beyer, and have also found favour with the likes Solomun, Tale Of Us and Dubfire.
Up first, the EP’s title track ‘Everybody Do Clap’ has a bounding, clappy beat with a huge breakdown to keep ravers on their toes as a processed male vocal title riff soars over rising sirens before a beat of silence and the drop. A fuzzy melodic phrase manages to be spacey but with an organic, soulful vibe as it duets with juddering industrial notes and stabs like a call and response – powerful, intriguing and with heart, as well as energy.
On the flip, ‘Nicotine’ creates a futuristic soundscape with doppler hoover swoops and judders, contrasted with a hopping pizzicato melody becoming more plangent as another monster breakdown builds to a matching drop via a female vocal title riff rising to urgency. Driving beats complete a gripping experience – it’s got to be said, it’s addictive.
Goom Gum have had a great year with standout performances at the likes of Tomorrowland, Ushuaia Ibiza, Techmission Festival (Prague) and Madhouse Beirut, as well as global tour dates in Mexico, Georgia, Hungary, India, Egypt and Thailand, to name a few. Such well-deserved attention has also won the duo releases on Afterlife, Zamna and Tomorrowland Music as well as Truesoul and their very own Avtook imprint. In just under a decade as a duo, they’ve also snagged a place in The Future of Dance 101 Top Producers 2024 (1001 Tracklists).
