Hannah Schnieder drops video for sedated summer ambient pop gem ‘It’s The Season’

Cinematic singer Hannah Schneider releases “It’s The Season” via Copenhagen label Midnight Confessions.

3rd single from forthcoming album “Ocean Letters” (September 30th).

With a heartfelt tone, Danish artist Hannah Schneider addresses this season, and how the summer’s light, intensity and high expectations can sometimes make you feel down and existentially heartbroken. “It’s the season” is a melancholic pop song, that oozes of sedated summer vibes. With sincere vocals, acoustic piano and minimalistic electronics, the song creeps into your heart, and stays with you long after it’s over.

The chorus has an almost gospel-esque feeling that brings to mind both the sonic universe from HBO’s Euphoria and the understated aesthetics and drums of James Blake, while the lyrics long for consolation from a loved one. “It’s the Season” features some of Denmark’s greatest voices- Goss, Jacob Bellens and Josephine Philip- who will all also be performing together with Hannah at this year’s Roskilde Festival under Hannah and Josephine’s moniker “Philip I Schneider”. The song was created with producer, pianist and film composer Christian Balvig, who is behind numerous soundtracks to TV series and films.

Hannah Schneider is one half of the celebrated duo AyOwA who have received significant international support from the likes of Huffington Post, The Independent, VICE, The Line of Best Fit, CLASH Magazine and Wonderland Magazine as well as airplay from both BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens as well as BBC Radio 6’s 6mix with Nemone. Independently, Hannah Schneider has been nominated for several music prizes in Denmark, and has performed all over Europe, the UK and the USA. Her spherical voice has appeared on several big Scandinavian TV series, recently in the international Nordic TV series Ride Upon the Storm.

On the track, Hannah says: “The early summer in Scandinavia is such a giant peak of the year. Darkness takes hold of us during the winter with its debris, cold and Icelandic sweaters, and it seems like it is part of our Nordic mentality to give in to the whims of the seasons, always waiting for the light and brighter days. But what does it mean to us as humans that winter is constantly waiting just around the corner, and even the brightest Midsommer night passes so quickly? Sometimes we end up waiting for a summer that just never comes- and when it’s finally there, the expectations are so high, that we can only be disappointed. To me, Midsommer is a melancholic time where every feeling is exaggerated, and the beauty of it all is so breathtaking that it feels like you have to throw all your guards down and just surrender. That makes good material for song-writing!”

There’s an airy, almost romantic, quality to the track; Schneider’s vocals are woozily seductive while synths sparkle over sparse, loose beats that draw from both R&B and ’80s electro.”
The Line Of Best Fit

“Soaring synths and stunning vocals.”
Wonderland Magazine

[On AyOwA’s ‘Sommer’] “Electrifying beats paired with Schneider’s orphic vocals lead the listener down an entrancing aural path that could even charm the likes of Hades.”
Huffington Post [On AyOwA] “Releasing a flurry of singles, the artful pairing have established a stellar reputation, with their Impressionistic take on pop’s outer limits proving to be helplessly beguiling.”
CLASH Magazine
