Pellon - Harmonies Of Glass

The Spanish-based Parallel label has long been a formidable staple of discerning house and techno. From Omer Grinker to Pablo Bolivar to label heads Monkey Brothers, their releases tend to be crafted with a distinct flair and are just as likely to be tailored to peak time as they are warm up slots. Their latest comes at us from Pellon, who delivers with some assurance on the expertly crafted Harmonies Of Glass EP.

Opening up the EP is the sounds of the title track. A textured melancholic track with beautiful, unique vocals at its core, it’s the chilled-out beachfront vibes are an especially welcome tonic at this time of year. An uplifting, glorious track, it’s full of positive vibes from start to finish. Romanian producer and Cyclic label boss Mihai Popoviciu then turns in an astute remix, as he beefs the track up with a steady tech house beat. Masterfully, he retains most of the original’s melodic excellence, building the track around it. A fitting interpretation of a stunning original.

The second original on offer is Pellon’s “Close To You”. A wispy, serene track that goes deep, it’s full of intricate field sounds and is both pensive and joyous at different stages. An opening track of some distinction, it works as a fantastic foil to matters elsewhere and gives the EP an extra dynamism in the process. Final track “Flowers in the Diary” again sees Pellon adopt a considered tone. A relaxed vibe with which to close out matters, it’s another reminder of the producer’s excellent ability to conjure up truly emotive electronic music. Sure to warm hearts and minds this Autumn, Parallel’s latest is an absolute triumph.
