Harry Nathan – ‘Understanding’

Harry Nathan is an Australian artist known for his contemporary take on indie-dance / lo-fi house that can be likened to a mix between Disclosure, Tentendo and Harvey Sutherland.

Continuing his ascent into the upper echelons of sophisticated house music, Harry is back this week with news of a four-track EP titled “Cosmic Perspective”, scheduled for release in March 2023.

Today Harry is giving us the first taste of what we can expect from that EP with his latest single ‘Understanding’. Unpretentious yet self-assured in its style, this Harry Nathan original is draped in a suave, lounge-house veil accented by its psychedelic synthwave undercurrents.

As Harry reveals below, ‘Understanding’ is a song about the futile attempt to make sense of the emotional turbulence that comes with matters of the heart.

“Understanding’ is not just about trying to make sense of a relationship, though more so about trying to understand our overall human existence and our complicated emotions in comparison to this vast universe” ~ Harry Nathan

Three of the songs on the EP have minimal yet poignant lyrics about love and human connection, the title-track ‘Cosmic Perspective’ is built around a quote from Carl Sagan:

“In a cosmic perspective, most human concerns seem insignificant, even petty. And yet our species is young and curious and brave and shows much promise. In the last few millennia we have made the most astonishing and unexpected discoveries about the Cosmos and our place within it, explorations that are exhilarating to consider. They remind us that humans have evolved to wonder, that understanding is a joy, that knowledge is prerequisite to survival. I believe our future depends on how well we know this Cosmos in which we float like a mote of dust in the morning sky” ~ Carl Sagan

Back in 2021 Harry Nathan and his twin brother Boonie also made headlines with Doof Shed – the world’s smallest mobile nightclub as certified by Guinness World Records. They plan on bringing the “Doof Shed” back to Sydney so keep your eyes peeled for that!
