Melbourne producer and songwriter Tyson Kraft has been through a lot in the past year, from the lows of being involved in a shocking motorcycle accident, to the highs of teaching children in disadvantaged communities abroad all while completing university.
‘Haunt Me’ is the first track Tyson Kraft has released since those experiences, and is a moving ode to the people who have supported him along the way.
“For a fleeting moment, I thought about stopping music all together. This song reflects my appreciation for the wonderful people that have come into my life and helped me to flourish and grow as both a musician and a person,” Kraft said.
The enchanting vocals of Tiff Fung (one-half of Melbourne's Serein) truly enhance the lyrical content, and her purposeful singing is a testament to the chemistry she shares with Kraft in the studio.
“It's always special recording with Tyson, and this project in particular was filled with vast creativity and exchange of ideas. The writing process was smooth as we really complement each other's strengths and weaknesses. We were constantly experimenting and coming up with ways to further develop and refine,” Fung said.
‘Haunt Me’ is a highly personal, yet relatable song that reflects Kraft's experiences with past love and losing loved ones. The desire to be loved is a recurring theme in Kraft’s music as he learns to balance and understand love alongside a career in music.
As a musician, Tyson derives inspiration from blending the genres of contemporary RnB and hip-hop with carefully placed electronic elements, as well as from his own unique life experiences that have helped shape both his sound and his kind-hearted character. But being a successful musician means different things to different artists, and for Kraft it’s about identifying the expectations and ensuring his self-expression is never compromised.
“I used to feel this restlessness about having to push myself to no ends to make it. This year, I am just doing me. Expressing myself, trying new things creatively, connecting with new people and just enjoying every step of this incredible journey. For a period of time, I had lost sight of why I was actually making music, and forgot the simple fact that music brings me so much happiness, and is a gift that I can share with lots of people,” Kraft said.
Earlier this year, Kraft travelled to Thailand for a working placement, and while he was there he taught Grade 1 and Grade 2 blind students how to read and speak English.
“I would like to dedicate this song to my amazing students at the Bangkok School for the Blind. Thank you for showing me how incredible you all are, and how you deal so effortlessly with challenges and setbacks. In the end, I think you all taught me more than I could ever teach you,” Kraft said.
'Haunt Me' is available everywhere now including Spotify & Apple Music.
