Heights and Worship come together to drop ‘Teach Dem’ on Worship Recordings alongside remixes from Willyum and Liondub & Ticklah this April.
Worship Recordings was born in the summer of ’98 in Philadelphia by Rob Paine aka Worship whose ethos behind it was simply to put out his own dubbed house sounds. Since it’s inception the imprint has developed into a family with artists such as Garth, Chris Udoh, Gary Beck, Pete Moss, Solomonic Sound, Hakan Lidbo, Jay Tripwire and Grant Dell all getting on board.
This release sees label founder Worship partner up with Heights, a relationship established in 2013 when the pair first released a 7” dub named ‘Teach Dem’ on Portland based Dub label ZamZam Sound. With its thunderous kick drum, spinning cymbals and reverbed vocal, ’Teach Dem’ employed a deep, powerful sound that garnered industry wide support – including 9/10 from Mixmag – that prompted the duo to re-release it on Worship Recordings with a string of quality remixes in tow.
First up, Heights + Worship deliver an ‘Extended Disco Mix’ that retains the original’s vibe whilst implementing an undulating groove tactfully geared for the dancefloor before Brooklyn-based producers Liondub & Ticklah take things deeper with a low-slung rhythm, delicate piano notes and sultry bass undertones. Up next Philadelphian artist Willyum delivers a pacey house cut that incorporates the original’s organ licks whilst laying down rhythmic percussion until the ‘Teach Dem’ original concludes the release with its dubby down-tempo magic.
Heights + Worship ‘Teach Dem’ EP is released on Worship Recordings on 13th April 2015 (vinyl) and 11th May (digital).
