Indie-electronic trio Overjoy debuted their groovy, eclectic sound last year with the release of their inaugural EP, Breakfast. Now, the LA-based outfit of longtime friends is back with more experimental work, this time in the form of their latest single “Holiday.”
The first single off of their sophomore offering Another EP which drops on Sept. 9, “Holiday” showcases the cinematic, lush soundscapes that define Overjoy’s boundary-breaking sound. Songstress LEX’ vocals cascade over a dreamy, instrumentally-driven production composed by group members Metty and Hoff. “Holiday” is paired with a kaleidoscopic, color-splashed music video that follows its protagonist’s psychedelic journey from a deserted island in search of fun and friendship.
ABOUT OVERJOY
Overjoy emerged from the reeds in 2015 with clear vision and a blank canvas. The Los Angeles-based trio has since built a devout following – harnessing a certain ability to evoke emotion through the speakers, Overjoy blends cinematic vocals, smart percussion and lush synth work, pushing dance music’s potential into new territories.
The outfit of longtime friends unveiled their debut ‘Breakfast EP’ last year via Sweat It Out. Hailed by THUMP for its “feel-good vibrations,” the two-track release displayed Overjoy’s dynamic range of sound design by mixing drums, keys and guitar into their electronic productions. Likewise their live performances are far from standard DJ sets and incorporate keyboard, drum machine, and tambourine anchored by songstress Lex serenading the crowd with her soothing croons.
Even prior to their 2015 debut EP, Overjoy’s shimmering singles had won worldwide radio love from Los Angeles to Berlin – seeing regular play by tastemaker stations Triple J, KCRW and Night Flight, as well as earning plaudits from artists RUFUS, Sinden and Bag Raiders.
