Chicago native newcomer producer Oxblood, has today released his stunning debut EP ‘How Long Is Forever’ – out now on Gold River Entertainment.
Crafted with impeccable precision and innate skill, Oxblood delivers a 4 track EP that is destined to captivate listener’s minds and mark his name firmly onto the dance music map. The title track takes listeners on a musical journey over its ten-minute duration, enchanting with dream-like electronic melodies and airy synths. The track was composed as a reflection on life, reminiscing about all the experiences and memories one has during our time on earth. With a vocal sample from Samuel Beckett’s one-act play “Krapp’s Last Tape”, an air of melancholy is created as the track draws to a close. The club-ready B-Side titled ‘Queen Of The Stars’ switches up the tempo with an energetic bassline, jabbing arpeggios and powerful chords. Winding a choppy female vocal into the mix, this cut exudes quality from beginning to end. ‘How Long Is Forever’ receives the remix treatment from UK power producer Sinden, taking the original to a completely different realm with a punchy bass line and a winding garage style drop. The final cut of the EP is French duo The Svens’ rendition of the title track, which emanates a lofty and psychedelic feel to the original, slowing the tempo back down and incorporating a persuasive bassline.
As the perfect accompaniment to ‘How Long Is Forever’, Oxblood unveils a highly emotive music video, which is taken from Matthew Thorne’s multi-award winning short film, Where Do Lilacs Come From. The video tells the story of an older man suffering from dementia, as it follows him on an emotional journey thinking back over his life in reflection.
Nathan Susman, aka Oxblood, is the 21-year-old Chicago native with a burning desire to create music that carries listeners away. Sparking his musical interest with piano lessons at just five years old, Nathan moved on to playing saxophone, the electric guitar and subsequently began producing dance music. Traveling around the world from Chicago, Berlin, New York City and Houston, Oxblood gained inspiration and texture for his debut EP, including guitar contributions from Eli Frank of Hudson Valley-based duo PUNT. If this EP is any indication of his future, we’ll be hearing a lot more from this bright young producer over the course of 2016.
