Carlo Lio - iLL Shit EP

The Kaluki Musik imprint returns with a four track release this August, entitled ‘iLL Shit’ and coming courtesy of Carlo Lio, while SHADED and Pirate Copy step up on remix duties.

Canda’s Carlo Lio has been a driving force for high octane electronic music coming out of his homeland for quite some time now with over a decades worth of back catalogue and his new On Edge Society imprint further cementing his status in the scene. Here we see Carlo joining the roster of the Manchester born Kaluki Musik imprint following recent output for No.19 Music, This And That and Suara.

The original mix of title track ‘iLL Shit’ opens up the package and Lio delivers his typically raw, drum driven style here with winding bass whirrs, hooky synth blips and spoken vocal licks thrown in for good measure. ‘My Name Is Nobody’ follows and lays down a murky stripped back groove alongside looped vocal lines and a subtly unfolding underlying tension throughout.

The latter half of the package sees two remixes offered up, the first of which from Pirate Copy reshapes ‘iLL Shit’ with swinging 909 rhythms, stab-led bass hits and sporadic bass wobbles, while Sci + Tec and Turbo Recordings live act SHADED turns in his ‘Money Cash’ take on ‘My Name Is Nobody’, laying focus on dynamic evolving bass leads and intricate processing of the original parts to create a dark and intriguing interpretation.

Carlo Lio’s ‘iLL Shit’ EP is out on Kaluki Musik 22nd August 2016.
