Sex of Insects follow up their excellent recent EP on this label with another refreshing offering, this time with remixes from Anatoly Ylotana, Hiroshi Watanabe and Sergey Sanchez & Mag Day Chuk.
At the core of the Sex of Insects project lies a complete improvisation of guitar sounds and vocals mixed with some vibrant electronic grooves. It makes for a unique sound with an almost complete absence of synthesisers and features Alexandra Bartashevich on vocals, guitar from Anatoly Ylotana and Roman Korablove providing the rhythm section.
The original mix of ‘I’m Full’ is a tumbling fusion of loose drums and percussive hits underpinned with Balearic guitar riffs and various other colourful and musical elements. An effortless vocal up top is dreamy and emotive and finishes the track in style.
Anatoly Ylotana then steps up with a fine solo remix that is fleshed out with fatter drums and warm bass and is more suited to the dance floor than the terrace party. It is cosmic and still spaced out but more driving. Transmat and Kompakt’s Japanese artist Hiroshi Watanabe then comes up with an effortlessly breezy and cosmic remix littered with glassy sounds, gentle melodies and soothing synths that lull you into a groove, and he also provides an instrumental that is more direct without the vocal.
Last of all, Sergey Sanchez & Mag Day Chuk follow up previous collaborations that have done well on dance floors and on sites like Beatport with their own remix. This great effort totally reworks the track into something deep and grinding, with well constructed drums and ghoulish spirits flipping about inside a tech funk beat that has real otherworldly charm.
This is another inventive and musical package from the essential Ylotana Music.
