Indie-Electronic Duo Vaarwell Release Haunting New Single ‘Corinthia’

Lisbon-born, London-based duo Vaarwell return this autumn with their emotive new single ‘Corinthia’, released via Disorder.

Real names Margarida and Ricardo, the pair have steadily carved out a sound that lies somewhere between the intimacy of The xx and the shadowy atmospherics of Burial, blending Ricardo’s breaks and UK garage textures with Margarida’s indie, folk and singer-songwriter roots.

Tender yet urgent, ‘Corinthia’ is built on skipping garage percussion, pulsing synths, and Margarida’s weightless vocals, embodying the liminal space between euphoria and reflection. It’s music for the moments after the dancefloor – for train rides home, quiet hours, and memories still humming long after the night ends. The track marks an exciting new chapter as first glimpse of their upcoming mixtape 3AM On The Northern Line, a love letter to London’s club scene that explores the duality of nightlife which was fully self-recorded and produced in their southeast London home studio and set for release later this year.

The release arrives on the heels of Vaarwell’s newly launched residency Flight Patterns at Bermondsey Social Club, named after their emblem, the migratory swallow, which reflects their own journey from Lisbon to London. The sold out opening night took place earlier this month, with the duo performing ‘Corinthia’ live for the first time to an intimate crowd alongside DJ sets from friends Stresshead and Adibanti. A further Flight Patterns night will take place on Thursday 27th November, with Vaarwell performing tracks off the mixtape live on the eve of its release, alongside DJ sets from their collaborators.

Vaarwell’s name comes from the Dutch and Afrikaans word for “farewell”, symbolising the departure from their life in Portugal, while their chosen emblem – the swallow – represents migration, resilience, and return. Since moving to London in 2020, just as the pandemic silenced the city, they have witnessed and absorbed the rebirth of its club culture, fusing that experience into a sound that feels both deeply personal and universally resonant, whilst falling in love with artists like Overmono, Joy Orbison, Waleed and James Blake along the way.
