Indie Rock Band Swimming With Bears shares ‘Patient Disguise’

Austin, Texas indie-rock band Swimming With Bears unveiled their formidable single, ‘Patient Disguise’ on 29 March 2024 via Swimming With Bears Music, alongside a stellar music video. The single and video received support from prominent tastemaker EARMILK. The four-piece band has had a string of prestigious accolades including support from Billboard and a live session on NPR Music. They’ve shared the stage with internationally renowned bands such as Panic! At The Disco, Weezer, Blue October as well as Circa Survive’s lead singer Anthony Green.

Swimming With Bears currently boasts 5 million streams across platforms and counting, while they’ve also worked with some of the most revered producers in the industry, including Gabe Simon (Dua Lipa), Ryan Hadlock (Lumineers) and Nathan Chapman (Taylor Swift). Additionally, they’ve shared their profound soundscape at the Bourbon and Beyond music festival in Louisville, Kentucky, with headliners Lenny Kravitz, Sting, Robert Plant and John Mayer.

The band formed during their college years, and includes Joe Perry on vocals and bass, Ryan Hannasch on drums, David O’Farrell on lead guitar and UK-raised Jonathan Kerr on rhythm guitar. Finding inspiration from the likes of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Amy Winehouse and The Gorillaz, the foursome have meticulously forged a sound that mirrors their unrivaled passion for music which speaks directly to the listener’s core. Their music has also been likened to rock royalty Kings of Leon, Vampire Weekend, Modest Mouse and The Police

‘Patient Disguise’ was written by all four band members, and produced by Matt Noveskey, with mastering by The Bakery, while mixing was handled by Victor Gaspar. The track acutely evokes emotions of pain and loneliness, while simultaneously radiating an air of euphoria and vibrance. Their ability to conjure contradictory emotions and stay true to their vision makes ‘Patient Disguise’ an exceptional piece of art. In the high octane track Joe Perry’s soaring vocals steal the show and drip with fervor. The gripping bassline, sturdy drum beat and succulent guitar riffs culminate into a riptide of highs and lows. The video was directed by Kevin C. McDermo, and sees the band perform on a dimly lit stage. Eerie shots of Joe being consumed by multiple hands covered in white gloves are interspersed with the band’s performance. The video brilliantly reflects the all-consuming nature of loneliness and the desire for connection.
