Stefan Obermaier really knows who to lay down a sumptuous deep house cut and that is what he does not once, not twice, but three times on his Indigo EP. It comes on his own great Drift label and is a little taster ahead of a promised new full length album from the Vienna based artist.
Chao Phao, like all the cuts here, is inspired by life on and the sounds of the beach in Thailand. It has melancholic pianos draped over gentle unfolding synth lines and breathy, well treated vocals lending it a beach feel. Circles is more up tempo with its kinky chords and long tailed pads all married to a bumpy groove underpinned by smooth kicks. Last of all is Indigo. the deepest and most serene and patient of the lot. Rippled and riddled with chords and smooth sounds it really gets under your skin. In light of this the new album can’t come soon enough.
