Innellea Returns to Afterlife with Stunning ‘Distorted Youth’ EP

There seems to be no halting the insurmountable creative force that drives Innellea. From his early beginnings in the blossoming scene of underground melodic techno to the apex of avant-garde electronica where he now resides, the globally renowned German producer, live act and pioneering visionary continues to push the envelop in each and every aspect of his flourishing career, maintaining an acute level of integrity and innovation across everything he does.

Riding a remarkable wave of success off the back of a hugely productive year in 2021 – a year which saw the Munich-based talent surpass countless career milestones at a rate of knots – Innellea now looks to inaugurate the New Year in the same abounding fashion with which he concluded the last, as he unveils his latest multi-faceted creative concept, Distorted Youth.

Speaking about the project, Innellea commented:

“Distorted Youth is an all-encompassing audio-visual experience. An EP, a music video, a new clothing line for my brand ‘INN’ and a truly innovative new global Live Tour concept. The full package also has a deeper meaning, which everyone will be able to discover and interpret for themselves. We are all the product of our own Distorted Youth.”

Out now via Afterlife Records, the four-part Distorted Youth EP marks Innellea’s eagerly-anticipated return to the esteemed Italian imprint, following his flawless debut back in 2018 with Vigilians EP, and his sophomore offering The World Returns EP in 2019.

Adding another prestigious string to his ever-expanding musical bow, Innellea christens the eagerly anticipated player with the resounding opener Confronted Reality. A staple in his enthralling live sets and a firm crowd favourite at the likes of Printworks (London), Zamna (Tulum), Warung Beach Club (Itajaí) and Bar Americas (Guadalajara) over the past few months, Innellea combines mind-altering synth riffs with explosive beats and an abundance of atmospheric timbres, as he lays an inexorable foundation for the rest of the EP.

Next up is the defiant title track Distorted Youth. First dropped during the international broadcast of his BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix on January 8, Innellea’s unrestrained creativity and innate disposition to break the mould sees the German produce an epic breakbeat anthem, replete with syncopated polyrhythms, euphoric interludes and a warm blanket of sub-bass that encapsulates the listener throughout. Characterised by its stark urban atmosphere, Distorted Youth will be further complemented by a dark and sinister official music video on February 9, created by Innellea and Munich-based filmmaker Marco Fumolo.

The penultimate track of the EP draws the audience into an altogether different realm, as the in-demand producer embarks upon a cosmic journey through consciousness to bring us Loss Of Hope. A dynamic and spirited delivery underpinned by cavernous basslines, ethereal samples and pulsating four-four beats, Innellea’s trademark amalgam of melodic introspection and post-apocalyptic club music shines front and centre, as he pulls out all the stops with another grandiose, euphoric weapon.

Drawing the EP to an immaculate conclusion with a captivating finale, Innellea demonstrates his vast productions credentials as he embarks upon the ominous, early-hours cut Irreversible. Unravelling a hostile web of menacing underground soundscapes, thrashing kicks and rough sonic patterns, Innellea penetrates the imagination with his mind-altering tones and exemplary use of juxtaposition and surprise, to conclude another remarkable EP on Afterlife and one of the most diverse releases on the label to date.

The release of Distorted Youth also marks the start of Innellea’s first ever Live Tour concept, which will see the multi-faceted German talent take on over a dozen huge headline shows across Europe and North America between February and May. Kicking off at Village Underground, London on February 5, Michi will take the fully immersive live concept to some of the most revered venues in electronic music, with stops in New York, Madrid, Stockholm, Tel Aviv, Beirut, Ukraine, Cairo, Malta and Lyon to name a few.

More dates will be added in the coming weeks. For full details, tickets and updates head to innellea.com/tour-dates/
