CÉCI. - Insideout

Danish sound designer and experimental producer CÉCI is set to drop her latest single, ‘INSIDEOUT’ on 9th December, heralding her hotly-tipped arrival onto the London experimental scene.

With a string of Copenhagen gigs under her belt and two tracks dropping in 2015: the evocative ‘Kill Me’ and the eerie ‘Leave’; CÉCI (Cecilie Dahlin) now looks ready to make her presence known as the new Danish export. This is sure to be cemented by a partnership with experimental American record label Hush Hush, renowned for artists such as Kid Smpl (listed by CÉCI as one of her influences) and j. Faraday. With collaborations between CÉCI and Kid Smpl and Chants already in the pipeline for the New Year, we can only expect big results from these experimental figureheads.

CÉCI produces all her own music with nothing but a piano and Ableton. Her determination earned the respect of producing heavyweight Throwing Shade, who admires CÉCI’s drive and determination to fulfill her vision. Keen to be seen as a brand, not just as a musician, CÉCI studies contemporary dance to unify the two expressions and enhance her ability as a performer.

A testament to CÉCI’s ethos as an artist, ‘INSIDEOUT’ is packed with heavily produced ‘noisy’ beats. Expertly layered echoed vocals sound almost ethereal against the harsh industrial sounds and heavy drums that intersperse throughout the track. A showcase of CÉCI’s impressive vocal range; the saccharine top notes spliced against the invasive instrumental are suggestive of Sevdaliza and FKA Twigs; cited by CÉCI as further influences. The lyric “eating me inside out”, CÉCI explains is “about a frustrating feeling inside, a ghost that eats you up: indescribable and unnatural like something so wrapped up in plastic it is beyond recognition.”

Already mentioned in Dazed, and rated by The 405 and Bitchslap Mag, we can predict that it won’t be long before CÉCI’s unique sound of slick vocals and industrial beats starts infiltrating British airwaves.
