Goldbrg is an exciting new artist hailing from Los Angeles, USA – seeing this talented up & coming DJ/producer going from strength to strength! First introduced to the global scene, through his recent hyped Live stream DJ sets – which saw him quickly build a sizeable following. Engaging audiences further with the release of his debut single, “Feel This Good” & since returning with his second release, “How To Dance” – Premiered 3rd July 2020 here on IHouseU! We caught up with Goldbrg to find out more about the man behind these infectious House cuts & a sneak peek into his future plans!
Welcome & thanks for joining us today, Goldbrg! First off, congrats on your new single ‘How To Dance’ – which we premiered here on 3rd July! Can you tell us the inspiration behind the track?
Thanks so much for having me! The track was a joint production effort between myself and my friend Kyle Ramsay, and the inspiration really stemmed from our desire to create something that could be enjoyed as a dance floor heater, a simple study tune, and everything in between. My goal through this project has been to grab hold of the mainstream audience and introduce more niche aspects of dance music that is often left for the true enthusiasts.
How did the production process compare with your previous release – ‘Feel This Good’?
For “Feel This Good” we started out with the vocal, and built around that. However, with “How To Dance” the track really started out with just the bass line. In fact, the vocal was actually the last element added in, after much trial and error with different vocal samples.
‘How To Dance’ has been lighting up across a number of DJ’s mix shows, did you expect that kind of response?
Seeing this has been the highlight of this project so far! It’s absolutely unexpected and incredible to be seeing some DJ’s I look up to, such as Madison Mars, playing the tune, and I have so much appreciation for it!
How did you decide on the name Goldbrg?
I wish I had a more interesting way to describe how Goldbrg came to be, but it really just stems from my last name “Goldberg.” It’s felt like part of my identity for as long as I can remember and I couldn’t think of anything more fitting to bring life to my project.
How would you describe your musical style? Is there a particular genre, label or artist/s that captures your sound?
Given that my next release will be somewhat of a changeup to my classic tech-house style thus-far, I would say that my sound is more about the energy than the particular sub-genre (although still encompassed by the traditional house music). In terms of influence, I must pay respect to the classic house producers of the ’90s and 2000s. Also, recently I’ve been loving the productions from artists like Sonny Fodera, Chris Lake and Dom Dolla. They really all have some incredibly unique styles of production that I haven’t seen replicated thus far – and always a surefire groove on the dance floor.
Can you tell us a little about your quarantine DJ sets?
Absolutely! My quarantine DJ sets really started out as just something fun to pass the time while stuck at home. As I’ve been working as a student also within the music industry for a couple years now, my daily schedule was completely flipped around, and found myself with a lot of free time. What started as a fun thing for my friends soon started gaining traction on facebook, and really before I knew it my livestreams were gaining tens of thousands of views, most notably in the group “Zoom Memes for Self Quarantines.” As I continued to pursue it, I also kept developing the production value, adding lasers, moving head lights, smoke machines, and more to captivate viewers.
Whether attending as a fan or performing yourself – what has been your favourite event or show to date & why?
While I’ve been to so many shows that I absolutely loved and endured life long memories, the one that stands out the most is Flumes show at the Shrine back in 2016 I believe. Flume was the artist that first hooked me on the world of electronic music, and seeing him perform live for the first time made me realize just how incredible this culture and community can be.
And lastly, what are some of your goals for 2020 & is there anything else you’d like to share with I House U readers?
My main goal right now is to just continue rolling with the momentum of the Goldbrg project, and putting out more tunes that people will vibe with! While the release is TBC, you can expect my next single “One Thing” to drop some time in August! Thanks again so much for having me, I hope everyone is keeping safe.
