Introducing: Greg Tish

New York based talent Greg Tish is rapidly making a name for himself as one of the most interesting artists in the current electronic music realm. Starting out as a musician, learning the ropes of piano and guitar playing at a young age, Greg Tish later fell in love with Dance music and has been immersed within in for the past years.

An ambassador for his own distinctive House, Progressive, Tech House and Techno blend, Greg Tish has put his signature on some remarkable projects such as: ‘Hoodlum’, ‘Renegade’, ‘Genocide’, ‘Jax’ and ‘To The Beat Of The Kick’ aside from signing with numerous renowned labels, including his own EMM Records.

Greg Tish’s latest production ‘Savage’ has piled up some serious support from many important names such as Jewel Kid, aside from numerous features on various electronic music sites and blogs. We’ve had the pleasure to sit down with Greg and get a closer look at his musical career, current projects and up-coming plans.

Hey Greg, thanks for talking to us. What’s happening around you at the moment?
Thanks for taking the time out to speak with me! Right now a lot of exciting things are happening – new productions are on the way and I’m also working on my own EMM imprint.

Which part of the world do you call home?
Currently New York City is home to me. I have lived in this part of the world now for 25 years. You never know what will happen or who you will see at any given moment – definitely exciting living here.

For those who are not familiar with your music, describe your current style?
I would consider my style in between Progressive and Tech House – probably a mix of the two.

Has your style changed along the year?
I started off producing Progressive House and then developed a bit of a dark side. My current productions are I guess what you would call Progressive-Tech House. I enjoy high-energy build-ups with a nice groove afterwards.

Who were your influences growing up?
I grew up listening to a variety of music. I mainly listened to bands like Queen and Pink Floyd. I then transitioned into Metallica and Megadeth. James Hetfield was the reason I picked up a guitar and learned every rhythm section in ‘Kill ‘Em All’, ‘Ride the Lightning’, ‘And Justice for All’ and ‘Master of Puppets’. I started producing electronic music when I was about 21, found an instant joy and hence it’s the reason why I still do it today.

You are a DJ, producer and label owner. How do you manage to find the balance between these three roles?
I enjoy managing many tasks at once; I find a thrill in it. I tend to go back and forth between producing and listening to demos and I spent some time re-branding my label whilst still focusing on myself as a producer. I just never saw myself in a 9 to 5 job which is why I do what I love.

You have recently released a single called ‘Savage’. What’s this track all about?
‘Savage’ is a dark, but still uplifting Progressive/Tech-like tune. I combined everything from my past tunes into one dark groove. I have to admit, I enjoy mixing it up with every single track.

How did you go about producing this single?
I started with the groove and then I worked around it from there. The intro is usually the hardest part for me in any production. If I can’t come up with something that I like within 1-2 hours I usually walk away and start fresh the next day. This one in particular was produced very smoothly.

Where would you imagine ‘Savage’ being played?
I can imagine ‘Savage’ being played from pool parties to indoor arenas. Reason I say indoor is because I am a huge fan of the Awakenings Festival. I would love to see it being played there. 

Do you have any other projects in the pipeline this year?
I do – I am always excited to say that I’m cooking new tunes up. I have been inspired a lot lately, which is always a good thing right before you sit down in the studio.

Where would you like to see yourself in the months ahead?
In the upcoming months I would love to see myself playing alongside some more names in the scene. Worldwide touring is definitely something I can see myself doing in the near future.

Favourite tracks in 2015 so far?
So far I have had ‘U-909’ by Kimen and Egoism on repeat – I love that track. Also, ‘Let Me Check’ by Phunk Investigation is an awesome track. Those guys never cease to amaze me! As you can see I love the uplifting groovy tracks.

Inspiring DJs this year?
This year I am inspired the most by DJs/producers like Trent Cantrelle, PI, Jewel Kid, UMEK, Stefano Noferini, Koen Groeneveld, Anthony Attalla, and many more!
