UK duo Jakkin Rabbit return to Jonny White’s No.19 Music imprint with a stellar EP featuring their trademark sound and backed with remixes from house music legend Dj Sneak and No.19 label mate Louie Fresco…
Jakkin Rabbit have been creating ripples in dance music’s open waters since they burst onto the scene four short years ago. Drawing on their combined experience as a multi-instrumentalist (Danny Kane) and Global Gathering resident (Marc Spence) they were destined for success from the start. Early acclaim for their releases on Jamie Jones and Lee Foss’ Hot Waves label as well as a prized spot on Art Department’s ‘Social Experiment’ compilation lead to a collaborative single with House legend Robert Owens and a memorable No.19 debut in 2013 with their sterling ‘Zion Ep’.
Now the Birmingham based pair return to the fold with a rock solid EP that features that own distinct take on house music. Opening with title track ‘Obsession’ the record dives straight into hypnotic, Chicago inspired excellence, rolling out a pitched spoken word vocal over old school drum programming and a classic house b-line. ‘Energize’ sees the the duo twist things up a little further with a dark and delightful house workout that show’s the pair’s early hours production credentials. Third and final original, ‘Love or Money’ lightens the mood with a melodic and rolling floorfiller that is peppered with spoken word French vocals, skittering keys and old soul samples to create a deep and dubby atmosphere.
To complete the package ‘Love or Money’ is given the double remix treatment. The first mix comes courtesy of the original House gangster , Chicago’s DJ Sneak, a man who has been helping shape house music for well over 20 years. His mix picks up the pace, layering in taut percussion, killer snares and a bass driven groove that is simply irresistible, classic DJ Sneak through and through. The second remix, and package closer, comes from No.19 regular, the excellent Louie Fresco; here he show’s his production nous with a stripped back, spaced out reworking that is pure aural delight.
It’s another winner from the No.19 stable and welcome return from the ever consistent Jakkin Rabbit.
