Jay Shepheard returns to Gruuv in August with two fresh original productions in the shape of his ‘Diode’ EP, whilst label owners Audiojack also join on remix duties.
Since making his production debut back in 2007 via his Black Label 19 EP on Compost, Jay Shepheard’s expansive career to date has seen the Berlin based Londoner play across a selection of the worlds most respected venues, from fabric to Panorama Bar, whilst releasing a slew of material via some of the industry’s leading labels including Diynamic, Pets Recordings, Poker Flat and more recently, Rebirth. After making his debut appearance on the label in September of last year, remixing James Cole’s impressive ‘Khumba’, here we see two further fresh productions on the imprint as he delivers ‘Diode’.
Title track ‘Diode’ opens proceedings as Shepheard combines rich wandering lead synths with murkier, brooding bass tones and sharp, rich melodies, before the lively ‘Phaze 4’ takes hold, utilising bright stabs and delicate hats to great effect throughout. Last up, label bosses Audiojack close the package with their driving interpretation of ‘Phaze 4’, harnessing the bubbly and light charm of the original production whilst adding slick metallic percussion licks and refined builds and breaks throughout.
Jay Shepheard ‘Diode’ is out on Gruuv on 9th August 2019.
