Jean-Michel Jarre with Gesaffelstein – Conquistador
Legendary French composer and producer Jean-Michel Jarre teams up with fellow countryman Gesaffelstein to unveil his very first piece of original music since 2007. Introducing to the world the triumph that is ‘Conquistador’.
‘Conquistador’ is the first full offering from Jean-Michel Jarre’s forthcoming studio album and arrives exclusively via Beatport as a special three-track package, that includes the original mix alongside two storming remixes.
With both Jean-Michel and Gesaffelstein uniting their own ethereal soundscapes on ‘Conquistador’, the music breaks new ground as it marches through a bevy of genres across its runtime. The result is nothing short of what you would expect from two such esteemed artists, as they produce something truly special just in time for the summer season. “I wanted to work with the people of his generation,” says Jean-Michel. “His music has this instantly recognizable sound. It’s quite dark, quite mystic.”
With over 80 million albums sold worldwide, Jean-Michel Jarre has been one of the pioneering forces throughout the electronic music scene over the last four decades, having originally made his name in the 1970s for his critically acclaimed ‘OXYGENE’ long player. ‘OXYGENE’ was unmistakably a catalyst that set electronic music well on its way to becoming the behemoth that it is today, with Jean-Michel’s music breaking down boundaries of composing and production that so many were faced with prior to its release.
A man who has continued to hone his craft with each and every project he tackles, fellow compatriot Gesaffelstein has worked with some of music’s most forward-thinking musicians such as Kanye West, A$AP Rocky, Lana Del Rey and Phoenix, so his decision to partner with one of the leading visionaries of his genre comes as no surprise. “Jean-Michel Jarre’s music is part of every household,” says Gesaffelstein. “A classic of electronic music. When I started making music, I looked towards the pioneers of electronic music so obviously I came across Jean-Michel. He is a part of my influences.”
Jean-Michel’s legendary concerts have attracted Guinness Record-breaking audiences, with his live shows often, if not always taking place in some of the most extraordinary setting worldwide. He was the first western musician ever to be invited to perform in the post-Mao China, and has also played the likes of the Great Pyramids in Egypt, The Sahara Desert and The Eiffel Tower in addition to perhaps his most famous performance ever, where he played to a record 3.5 million people in Russia when he was invited to celebrate the 850th birthday of Moscow in 1997. All in all, Jean-Michel has held Guinness World Records for the largest live audiences in four different continents, and with even more music on the way, you can expect there to be brand new live and immersive concerts to go with it.
Jean-Michel Jarre is synonymous with the extraordinary as he continues to break new ground with each piece of music and every performance. With a wealth of plans lined up over the coming year to follow up on ‘Conquistador’, expect even more from the Frenchman as he continues to innovate and build upon all of the sounds and concepts that he started working on so many decades ago.
