Dutch DJ and producer Jengi is turning up the heat just in time for summer with the release of his sizzling new single ‘Closer’, released on Tomorrowland Music today. With his newest track, Jengi takes a bold step back into the playful energy that first shaped his love for dance music. Building on his signature formula of chopped vocal samples, groovy basslines, and vibrant synth work, ‘Closer’ shows Jengi evolving while still staying true to the spirit of his earlier productions.
After exploring 90s-inspired territory on Take U, this new release steers away from nostalgic predictability. Instead, Jengi draws inspiration from the sounds that shaped his musical upbringing—particularly the quirky and innovative electronic styles of Dutch producer Bas Bron (aka Fatima Yamaha). These local influences breathe a fresh yet familiar life into the track. ‘Closer’ marks his third release on Tomorrowland Music, following ‘Take U’ and Things We Do’ (a crowd-pleasing collaboration with The Magician).
Jengi: “The production plays with dynamics: a stripped-back first drop led only by drums and a funky bassline, gradually building into a more expansive and euphoric second drop. When the synth stabs hit, the track fully opens up – mirroring the transformation shown in the accompanying music video, where a stiff party turns wild once the second drop hits.”
It might just be a metaphor for Jengi himself – someone who watches carefully before diving in, but once he does, there’s no holding back.
