The 3rd single taken from Wilde’s debut album, out later this year, ‘Cruel’ signals Wilde delving back into her first love, a toxic relationship that inspired a harnessing of her bisexual identity but also led her to addiction – a subject she’s tackling on her debut album.
On ‘Cruel’ Wilde collaborated with producer Jay Nebular and Grammy award winning producer Kiris Houston who have worked heavily with the likes of The Disciples and Little Mix. ‘Cruel’ has a nice lazy summer haze 90’s classic hip hop beat and r’n’b vibe where Jessica is at her most cutesy, sultry but equally dangerous as her lyrics offer a little sting in the tail as she questions, “Why you gotta be so cruel?” As she caresses every word and makes her ex-lover only dream about what could have been.
‘Cruel’ harks back to golden age tracks from the 90’s, then crescendos seamlessly into a modern sassy rap delivered in Wilde’s undeniable London twang where she defiantly triumphs as she lays down the law, “I gave you all of my power, but now I see all the ways that I cowered, and I’m taking it back, no longer the fool. Baby you’re cruel.”
The official visual tracks Jess wandering South London, paying homage to a nostalgic look & flava, shot on disposable cameras and VHS, it gives an authentic feel, themed throughout the album.
This exciting project is a personal journey through Wilde’s battles with addiction and self-worth. Coming off the back of impressive Double A side release explicitly titled ‘Wasted’ / ‘F*ck U I’m Sober Now’ and latest release ‘Body’, this is a ride through mad parties, hazy drunken nights, toxic relationships, love, regret, self-loathing, self-empowerment, self-love and going sober. Wilde once again opens a doorway into her past by returning full circle to her South London roots, combining her sharp-witted lyricism through Spoken Word/Rap alongside her fresh UK sounding raw soulfulness and killer music to vibe to.
Wilde has been picking up heat, gaining attention across BBC Radio including ‘Record of the week’ on 1xtra, BBC Radio London (Claira Hermet/Lionheart and Salma El-Wardany/Emelia Poamz) 6 Music, KISS FM (Rudekid), Hoxton Radio (Kerry Boyne), Radio 5 (Amsterdam) and many more. She has also featured in Clash Magazine, Wonderland, The Daily Star, WordPlay, Cool Hunting, Noctis Mag, and her story caught the attention of rising Podcast ‘Headliner’.
Now established as a singer songwriter, signing her deal with major publisher SONY ATV, Wilde has worked with artists from Ghetts to Tough Love. Her self-penned track ‘Strangers Love’ was released on renowned Korean k-pop label SM Entertainment and her co-write with Rudimental, ‘More Than Anything’ featured vocals from Emeli Sande and made their No1 Album. Wilde’s trip to LA saw her working on a project at Ne-yo’s Hollywood studio with Producer Kizzo, which led to a mini tour with a Sold Out headline show at POW in Brixton and a finale stop at Bospop Festival opening the stage for the legend, Nile Rodgers.
