After a five-year hiatus, you returned to the scene with a series of releases in 2023. What motivated your comeback, and how has your perspective on music evolved during your time away?
I never really left music. Over the past five years, I explored and released different styles under various aliases. However, I paused the Jewel Kid project for a reset because I wasn’t happy with its direction. That break allowed me to gather knowledge and experience, which now fuel a refreshed and evolved Jewel Kid.
Winning the Carl Cox Worldwide Remix Competition and receiving the Best Dance Production award at the Malta Music Awards were pivotal moments. How did these achievements impact your career trajectory and opportunities in the industry?
These achievements were defining moments. Winning the Carl Cox competition opened doors to international connections and gave my music global exposure. The Malta Music Awards boosted my confidence and presence locally. Both milestones set the foundation for my career and continue to inspire me to aim higher.
Your discography includes releases on esteemed labels like Toolroom, Cr2, and Glasgow Underground. How do you decide which labels to collaborate with, and what do you seek in these partnerships?
I look for labels that align with my sound and vision. It’s about finding platforms that resonate with my music and amplify its reach. Beyond prestige, I value labels that support their artists through promotion, collaboration, and growth opportunities.
Tell us about your latest track, Go Hard on Toolroom. Any specific inspiration behind this one?
“Go Hard” pays tribute to the era when I fell in love with house music. Legends like Junior Jack, Kid Creme, Antoine Clamaran, and Robbie Rivera heavily influenced the groove-driven style of this track. Their impact is still evident in my sound today.
As a Maltese artist, how has your cultural background influenced your music, and what role does Malta play in your creative process?
Malta’s unique blend of cultures and its vibrant club scene have shaped my approach to music. It’s where I honed my craft and connected with audiences, making it an integral part of my creative journey.
Reflecting on your early days, what drew you to electronic music, and how did you navigate the challenges of entering the scene at a young age?
I started with piano lessons at 8 and was inspired by my brother’s passion for DJing at 13. By 14, I was playing in Maltese clubs. Being young in a competitive industry pushed me to refine my skills and prove myself, teaching me discipline and resilience.
With the evolution of the electronic music landscape, how do you adapt to emerging trends while maintaining the essence of your sound?
I embrace trends as opportunities to innovate while staying true to my style. Drawing inspiration from new sounds and technologies, I filter them through my vision to create music that feels fresh yet authentic.
Looking ahead, what are your aspirations for 2025 and your long-term future?
My focus for 2025 is to release quality music and tour the world, sharing my sound with new audiences. I also aim to grow my label, Alleanza, into a leading platform for innovative music.
