Lee Malcolm better known with his moniker Jinje` is back again with another release as a solo artist. ‘Special Dry’ is the second release from the House and Techno master after his three track EP ‘Amya’. Now out on all major distributers including: iTunes, Beatport, Juno, Bandcamp, Boomkat and 7 Digital, ‘Special Dry’ is a two track package which is set to continue Jinje`’s ascension as a solo outfit.
Renowned for his affiliations with the live Techno band Vessels, who have signed with labels such as Bias and are receiving acclaim from various press such as: Mixmag, DJ Magazine and The Guardian, Jinje` is presently also experimenting with his own individual sounds. A continuation on previous solo work under the Lee J Malcolm name, Jinje` can now be considered a fully fledge solo artist with accolades to prove it. In fact, his first two releases under the new trademark have already gathered some important support from the likes of: Matt Black, Mano Le Tough, Henry Saiz, nd_baumecker, Nemone and Magnetic Mag.
Rooted within the House domain, ‘Special Dry,’ the lead single of the EP hits with a metronome like loop and a background side-stick drum pattern. A blasting effect introduces the reverb filled female vocals that fill up the track. A deep bass drum pattern is added to the mix whilst the finger clicks provide a solid back-beat. The deeper end of the frequency spectrum is taken care of with the sub by synth-bass bass-lines before a forceful four-on-the-floor kick rhythm propels the groove forward. The single takes the shape of a House track when the full rhythm is unleashed, whilst still keeping Jinje`’s left field signature with the vocals and synth melodies that accompany it. Pitch shifting on the beat provides a different feel to the production and has a massive effect on its dynamics. ‘Special Dry’ continuously reserves unexpected surprises, adding new effects and elements to keep it engaging at all times, modifying the emotional side of it. This is a truly infectious track that can really get dance-floors moving with its mesmerising groove and powerful climaxes.
On the other hand ‘Tung Me’ gives an immediate African feel with the Tongue drum melody in the introduction, whilst the percussive rhythms are then added to blend in the Techno style. A true masterpiece in terms of percussive composition, ‘Tung Me’ is a unique sounding single that has faded boundaries between electronic genres and organic tribal music. Intricate sounds provide colour to the whole single, using each element to boost both the melodic and rhythmic side of things. The straight beats together with the off-beat melodies certainly create a distinctive atmosphere, whilst Jinje`s management of song structures play a big role in controlling energy intensities. ‘Tung Me’ is a sheer display of why Jinje` can truly become the next big thing in electronic music, with his highly creative and inimitable ideas which he skilfully portrays in the form of sound.
‘Special Dry’ has now been added to the Messrs. Kick & Drum Records family, joining Jinje`’s first project which is also part of their catalogue. The London based label is fairly new in the game, however it is already establishing it roots within the House and Techno genres, although it does have a wider reach into Electronica and other musical worlds.
Jinje` has set himself as the driving force behind this label, giving them a kick start with his two releases, which have proven to be up to par with this huge responsibility. ‘Special Dry’ is a clear statement that Jinje` can extend the success gained through his band project into his solo effort and is surely another step in the right direction to gain a foothold within the electronic music realm in the months ahead.
