Joe Brunning – Soul Matters
On April 6th 2015 the UK-based rising Techno talent Joe Brunning returns to Carl Cox and Jon Rundell’s seminal imprint Intec with his first solo release entitled, ‘Soul Matters’.
This essential single release follows Joe and Trevor Rockcliffe’s acclaimed 2011 Intec EP ‘Jack Back / Make You Freak’ plus further offerings on respected labels such as; KMS Recordings, Mentor, Bush and Family Grooves. This is the title track taken from Joe’s forthcoming debut album, which set to be released later in the year, and also features a stellar remix from Techno’s legendary father-and-son duo Kevin & Dantiez Saunderson.
‘Soul Matters’ entices you in with its bangin’ 909-laden drums, looped-up bongos and seductive spoken-word male vocal sample saying “Give me heart, Give me soul, little high, little low and the sound of our music and the sound of our soul”. It builds with an inspiring and alluring melodic lead riff reminiscent of 90s clubland and a series of lush suspense chords which make a fine addition to the mania.
Kevin & Dantiez’s sublime remix follows, taking us on more of a jackin’ vibe and adding a synthesised horn-esque phrase plus an abundance of South American inspired percussion loops and hits. The remix also makes good use of the spoken-word vocal by cutting parts of it up and looping them up to create a real warped and trippy feeling throughout the track.
To conclude, this single is a great precursor to what’s to come from Joe and Intec as there’s plenty more mouth-watering material to follow later in the year. ‘Soul Matters’ is available exclusively via Beatport from April 6th and the rest of the world two weeks later.
