John Legend & Common – ‘Glory’ (Gil Glaze Rework)
Zurich based DJ and producer Gil Glaze is set to continue his string of startling releases with a rework of a John Legend and Common hit ‘Glory’, which featured in the movie ‘Selma’. Its live performance was a great hit at the Grammy’s and Oscars and achieved global acclaim and millions of spins from all corners of the globe. Setting the example to all up-and-coming DJs and producers, Gil Glaze has already achieved remarkable feats and his ascension is not showing any signs of halting or slowing down.
With a very heavy live performance schedule, Gil Glaze is always warming up crowds at the best clubs in his circles. Apart from holding a regular residency at Zurich’s most renowned club, Kaufleuten and other residencies at VANITY, Diamond Club in St. Moritz and Lavo Club in New York, he has also been behind the decks of some of the finest clubs in many parts of the world, including: Tokyo, Munich, Montenegro, Croatia, Miami, and Canada amongst others. Gil Glaze’s incredible DJing skills have also earned him opening spots for A-list DJs, namely: Tiesto, Lil Jon, Kaskade, Quintino, Otto Knows, Dubvision, Alvaro, and Style of Eye apart from playing back-to-back with DJ sensation Martin Garrix.
Gil Glaze is as active in the studio as much as he is on the road. On the production front he’s identified for his reworks, having his take on Sebastian Ingrosso & Tommy Trash’s track ‘Reload’ featuring on Tiesto’s ‘Club Life’ podcast just an example of the calibre of his support line. Moreover, he has now also become the driving force behind his own label Breeze Records, with his original material. His work on John Legend & Common’s track ‘Glory’, which will be available as a free download is further proof of Gil Glaze’s mastery and profound musical knowledge.
The rework on ‘Glory’ is available in two House inspired versions, an Extended Mix and a Radio Edit. The Extended Mix gets started with a traditional House groove, before getting into open, pitch shifted effects and filtered vocal loops. An ascension resolves into a sudden halt, which then leaves space for John Legend’s smooth vocals and acoustic piano arrangement to shine. The single is intensified with House drum patterns and punchy style synth melodies whilst the vocals dribble between taking main-stage and resorting to a rhythmical enhancement role. Whilst leaving the vocals practically intact, adding only effects to it, Gil Glaze bases his rework on controlling the aura around it, giving a totally different feel when compared to the original, whilst keeping enough elements to give the necessary resemblance. On the other hand the Radio Edit is built differently, getting down to business with the vocal parts from the very start, whilst building the House groove at later stages in the tune. The shorter nature of the edit provides an excellent overview of Gil Glaze’s concepts and ideas behind this rework.
Gil Glaze is quickly becoming a worldwide electronic music spectacle and he is proving his merit with every track and every live show he does. Apart from his rework of ‘Glory’, the Swiss talent has also released an original single by the name of ‘Vector’, via Breeze Records, now available in all good digital music stores. Moreover, you can be sure to catch up with Gil at his residency at Kaufleuten and in various clubs in the US and Switzerland this year, touring venues such as: 1826 Lounge, Lavo, Tao Downtown, Marquee, and Jade Club, where he will be performing solo sets apart from opening for EDX and closing for Steve Angello.
